Lina Mendes Soprano Lina Mendes, born in Rio de Janeiro, is currently considered one of the leading Brazilian sopranos. In Italy she was part of the Accademia Teatro Alla Scala, in Spain she was part of the Center de Perfeccinment del Palau de les Arts and in Germany she participated in the Schleswig Hostein Musik Festival. Lina participated in various operas from an early age. She was part of the Children's Choir of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, a university where she also completed her academic degree in lyrical singing. She debuted her first opera at age 18 at the Municipal Theater of Rio de Janeiro with Die Zauberflöte (Mozart).
