He read music at Leeds University and then studied at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama with Peter Alexander Wilson, and the National Opera Studio. He has won the Alexander Peden Fyfe Award, the Sybil Tutton Award and the John Scott Award, and been awarded Scholarships by Shell UK and the Countess of Munster Trust.
