Biography
Born 1987 in Irkutsk, Siberia, Petr Sokolov completed his vocal studies at the Gnessin Academy of Music and the Moscow State Conservatory. He has since won numerous prizes at renowned singing competitions, such as the Vox Artis Competition in Moscow, Francisco Viñas Competition in Barcelona, Operalia and “New Voices”. In 2021 he received a nomination Russia’s most prestigious theatre prize, the “Golden Mask Award” for his performance as Prof. Humbert in the world premiere of Rodion Shchedrin's opera Lolita at the Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg. Since the very beginning of his career Sokolov has been invited by numerous opera houses in Russia as well as abroad. He appeared in Dublin as Escamillo in Carmen and Sharpless in Madama Butterfly, as Polkan in Rimsky-Korsakov's The Golden Cock
