Aunt Simona
Ernő Dohnányi is one of those Hungarian composers whose works are played much less often than they deserve. The Opera is trying to counter this: After The Vojda's Tower and The Tenor, it is now staging Aunt Simona , the first opera by the former director general of the Academy of Music.

Aunt Simona keeps suitors away from Beatrice with the strictness of a nunnery in her ancient Italian villa. The aunt was left with a wooden image at the altar when she was young, and since then she has been protecting everyone from love disappointments. Nuto, the faithful house servant, makes sure that no man can set foot inside. They have no idea that a suitor has already entered in disguise: Count Ghino pretends to be a deaf and mute gardener. He is waiting for the right moment to confess his love to the beautiful Beatrice and run her away from the estate. All of a sudden, Ghino's old, capricious friend, Count Florio, also appears, and finds an old acquaintance in the villa. This meeting also has an unexpected effect on the lives of the young lovers.

The violinist from Cremona
The most popular opera of the violinist Jenő Hubay from Cremona , which was presented in Budapest in 1894. On festive occasions, the composer played the famous violin solo in it. The work was a great success not only in Hungary, but also abroad: it was presented in Germany, Switzerland and Austria, and even in New York. Thus, after Károly Goldmark's work, The Queen of Saba , this is the second Hungarian opera to reach overseas. It was made into a TV play in 1987, but has not been played for more than thirty years. Now Bence Varga, who has already gained attention with the direction of Sancta Susanna, is staging it.

Master Ferrari, the guild president of the city of Cremona, famous for its violins, announces that the mayor is announcing a tender for the production of master violins. The prize for the winner is a gold chain and the hand of his daughter, Giannina. Giannina is shocked that her father would simply add her to the winner of the competition without listening to her opinion. Giannina is in love with her childhood playmate, the handsome and popular Sandró, who works in master Ferrari's workshop. In order to win the girl, the boy applies for the competition with a beautiful solo violin, but the hunchbacked Filippo, another talented student of Master Ferrari, also enters. The piquancy of the situation is that Sandro and Filippo are good friends.
