Brno Contemporary Orchestra: *New Work Various

Around 1960, a kind of "study community" of composers who had gone through turbulent changes of opinion, focused on getting to know the so-called New Music, was organized in Brno. Non-registered members were Alois Piňos, Josef Berg and Miloslav Ištvan. Thanks to the concentration of similarly focused, albeit different personalities, the period 1960-1970 is often referred to as the "golden age of the Brno avant-garde". The first fruit of this atmosphere was the Brno creative group A (the name was determined by alphabetical order, it was expected that other groups B, C...), whose members were composers Jan Novák, Alois Piňos, Josef Berg, Miloslav Ištvan, Zdeněk Pololáník, artist Dalibor Chatrný, musicologists František Hrabal and Milena Černohorská and subsequently Miloš Štědroň. There arose a new tendency accepting the development of Western European music, searching, experimenting, connecting visual, theatrical and musical arts. Josef Berg (1927–1971), who died prematurely, was a very distinctive artistic personality on the border between music, theater and literature, who played an irreplaceable role in Brno's musical events. Of his extensive work, his music-dramatic work is still inspiring today. The puppet show Breakfast at Šlankenvald Castle was created in 1966 and uses dialogue in the archaic puppet Czech of the end of the 19th century, only the singing of the Czech miner is in German.

Composer Alois Piňos (1925–2008) and artist Dalibor Chatrný (1925–2012) created three unique audiovisual compositions in the years 1969–1970. The first of these was Static Music for Slides and Electronics, the second Lattice for Filmstrip and Piano, and the third Genesis for Filmstrip and Chamber Orchestra. The creative basis of Genesis is the confrontation of contrasting elements of wavy lines and chopped broken lines, while Piňos entrusted the orchestra to soprano saxophone, trombone, jonice124, harp, harpsichord, violin, cello and percussion instruments.

Love, defiance and death by Miloslav Ištvan was created in 1984. A year earlier, the composer created the incidental music for the drama by Maryš Aloise and Vilém Mrštík, which appealed to him very much thanks to its dramatic story, social subtext and the folklore environment of Slovácko. In addition to the mezzo-soprano, Ištvan used an unconventional cast: polyphonic and monophonic synthesizers, two cymbals and percussion instruments.

The composition Ghetto Brünn by Petr Kofroně (b. 1955) was created in 2022 by order of the Brno Contemporary Orchestra. The composition of the leading Czech composer is intended for a chamber orchestra.

Um das Jahr 1960 gruppierte sich in Brno eine Art „Studiengesellschaft“ von Komponisten, deren Ansichten hinsichtlich der sog. Neuen Musik stürmische Veränderungen durchliefen. Als Mitglieder dieser inoffiziellen Vereinigung können Alois Piňos, Josef Berg und Miloslav Ištvan gelten. Dank der Konzentration weiterer Künstler, die trotz unterschiedlicher Persönlichkeiten in ähnlicher Richtung aktiv waren, werden die Jahre von 1960 bis 1970 gern das „goldene Zeitalter der Brünner Avantgarde“ genannt. Erste Frucht dieser kreativen Atmosphäre war die Brünner Gruppe A (es wurde mit der Entstehung weiterer Gruppen gerechnet, die alphabetisch aufsteigend als B, C usw. bezeichnet werden sollten), deren Mitglieder die Komponisten Jan Novák, Alois Piňos, Josef Berg, Miloslav Ištvan und Zdeněk Pololáník, der bildende Künstler Dalibor Chatrný, die Musikwissenschaftler František Hrabal und Milena Černohorská und in der Folge auch Miloš Štědroň waren. Neue Tendenzen, die sich hier entwickelten, waren die Akzeptanz der musikalischen Entwicklung in Westeuropa, die Suche und das Experimentieren, die Verbindung von bildender Kunst, Theater und Musik. Eine sehr markante Künstlerpersönlichkeit im Grenzbereich von Musik, Theater und Literatur, die für das Brünner Musikgeschehen eine herausragende Rolle spielte, war der allzu früh verstorbene Josef Berg (1927–1971). Aus seinem umfangreichen Œuvre  kann bis heute vor allem sein musikalisch-dramatisches Schaffen als sehr inspirierend gelten. Die Puppentheateraufführung Frühstück auf Burg Schlankenwald entstand 1966 und ist im archaischen Tschechisch der Puppenspieler des späten 19. Jahrhunderts gehalten, während lediglich der Gesang des tschechischen Bergmanns in deutscher Sprache erklingt.

Der Komponist Alois Piňos (1925–2008) und der Künstler Dalibor Chatrný (1925–2012) schufen in den Jahren 1969–1970 drei einzigartige audiovisuelle Kompositionen. Die erste davon war die Statische Musik für Diapositive und Elektronik, es folgten die Gitter für Filmstreifen und Klavier und schließlich die Genesis für Filmstreifen und Kammerorchester. Die künstlerische Basis der Genesis bildet der Kontrast von Wellenlinien und abgehackten, gebrochenen Linien, während Piňos für das Orchester eine Besetzung aus Sopransaxofon, Posaune, Ionika, Harfe, Cembalo, Violine, Violoncello und Schlagzeug wählte.

Miloslav Ištvans Komposition Liebe, Trotz und Tod entstand im Jahr 1984. Ein Jahr zuvor hatte der Komponist die szenische Musik zum Schauspiel Maryša von Alois und Vilém Mrštík geschaffen, welches ihn durch seine dramatische Handlung, seine gesellschaftlichen Anspielungen wie auch die Lokalisierung in der volkstümlichen Umgebung der Mährischen Slowakei angesprochen hatte. Zur Begleitung der Mezzosopranstimme wählte Ištvan eine ungewöhnliche Besetzung: polyfone und monofone Synthesizer, zwei Zymbale und Schlagzeug.

Die Komposition Ghetto Brünn von Petr Kofroň (geb. 1955) entstand 2022 im Auftrag des Brno Contemporary Orchestra. Das Werk des herausragenden tschechischen Komponisten ist für ein Kammerorchester bestimmt.

Okolo roku 1960 se v Brně uskupilo jakési „studijní společenství“ skladatelů, kteří prošli bouřlivými názorovými změnami, zaměřené na poznávání tzv. Nové hudby. Nepsanými členy byl Alois Piňos, Josef Berg a Miloslav Ištvan. Díky koncentraci obdobně zaměřených, ač osobnostně rozdílných individualit bývá období let 1960–1970 označováno „zlatým věkem brněnské avantgardy“. První plodem tohoto ovzduší byla brněnská tvůrčí skupina A (název byl určen alfabetickým řazením, počítalo se, že vzniknou další skupiny B, C…), jejímiž členy byli skladatelé Jan Novák, Alois Piňos, Josef Berg, Miloslav Ištvan, Zdeněk Pololáník, výtvarník Dalibor Chatrný, muzikologové František Hrabal a Milena Černohorská a následně Miloš Štědroň. Vznikla zde nová tendence akceptující vývoj západoevropské hudby, hledání, experimentování, propojení výtvarného, divadelního a hudebního umění. Velmi osobitou uměleckou osobností na pomezí hudby, divadla a literatury, která měla pro brněnské hudební dění nezastupitelnou úlohu, byl předčasně zemřelý Josef Berg (1927–1971). Z jeho rozsáhlého díla je dodnes inspirativní především jeho hudebnědramatická tvorba. Loutkoherecký výstup Snídaně na hradě Šlankenvaldě vznikl v roce 1966 a je v něm použitý dialog v archaické loutkoherecké češtině konce 19. století, pouze zpěv českého horníka zní v němčině.

Skladatel Alois Piňos (1925–2008) a výtvarník Dalibor Chatrný (1925–2012) vytvořili v letech 1969–1970 tři unikátní audiovizuální kompozice. První z nich byla Statická hudba pro diapozitivy a elektroniku, druhá Mříže pro filmový pás a klavír a třetí Geneze pro filmový pás a komorní orchestr. Výtvarný základ Geneze tvoří konfrontace kontrastních prvků vlnovek a sekaných lomených čar, přičemž obsazení orchestru Piňos svěřil sopránovému saxofonu, pozounu, jonice124, harfě, cembalu, houslím, violoncellu a bicím nástrojům.

Láska, vzdor a smrt Miloslava Ištvana vznikla v roce 1984. O rok dříve vytvořil skladatel scénickou hudbu k dramatu Maryša Aloise a Viléma Mrštíkových, které jej velmi oslovilo díky svému dramatickému příběhu, sociálnímu podtextu i folklornímu prostředí Slovácka. Ištvan zde vedle mezzosopránu užil netradiční obsazení: polyfonní a monofonní syntetizéry, dva cimbály a bicí nástroje.

Skladba Ghetto Brünn Petra Kofroně (nar. 1955) vznikla v roce 2022 na objednávku Brno Contemporary Orchestra. Kompozice předního českého skladatele je určena komornímu orchestru.
