In Chicago it's time to say goodbye - and in Frankfurt too: Riccardo Muti is traveling to the Main for the last time in his office as chief conductor of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. After 14 years, the 82-year-old grand seigneur takes his hat off at Lake Michigan. In cooperation with the Alte Oper, we are taking two concert evenings to celebrate Muti's farewell as chief conductor of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. And the Chicagoers and their maestro are looking back on the wide range of repertoire that they have covered together over the years. With a literally magical program, for example, which moves in dazzling orchestral colors on the threshold from Russian late romanticism to early modernism, before Brahms oscillates between North German seriousness and Viennese melancholy with his 2nd symphony.

In Chicago heißt es Abschied nehmen – und in Frankfurt auch: Zum letzten Mal reist Riccardo Muti in seinem Amt als Chefdirigent des Chicago Symphony Orchestra an den Main. Nach 14 Jahren nimmt der 82-jährigen Grandseigneur seinen Hut am Lake Michigan. In Kooperation mit der Alten Oper lassen wir uns zwei Konzertabende lang Zeit, um den Abschied von Muti als Chef am Pult des Chicago Symphony Orchestra zu zelebrieren. Und die Chicagoer unternehmen dabei mit ihrem Maestro Rückschau auf die große Repertoire-Bandbreite, die sie gemeinsam in all den Jahren durchschritten haben. Mit einem buchstäblich zauberhaften Programm etwa, das sich in schillernden Orchesterfarben an der Schwelle von russischer Spätromantik zu früher Moderne bewegt, bevor Brahms mit seiner 2. Sinfonie zwischen norddeutschem Ernst und Wiener Melancholie changiert.
