Longtemps considéré comme une partition mineure, L’Enlèvement au sérail est aujourd’hui reconnu comme l’une des pièces lyriques importantes du catalogue mozartien. Les disparités de style jadis reprochées sont désormais saluées comme la marque évidente d’une plaisante diversité où la noblesse de ton et la virtuosité de Constance s’harmonisent au pétillant entrain de Blonde et à l’irrésistible drôlerie d’Osmin. La place singulière de L’Enlèvement tient au fait que, situé à la charnière de deux périodes du parcours opératique de Mozart, on y décèle à la fois la spontanéité de la jeunesse qui s’achève et la maîtrise d’une écriture déjà pleinement mature. Faux exotisme mais délicatesse et tendresse irrésistible, un cocktail dont saura se souvenir quelques années plus tard Rossini. Julien Chauvin et une jeune équipe réunie à ses côtés sauront lui rendre toute sa saveur.

Die Entführung aus dem Serail, which for many years was considered to be a minor score, is now acknowledged to be a major work in Mozart’s operatic catalogue. The disparities in style for which it was criticised in the past are now hailed as a clear indicator of a pleasing diversity in which the noble tone and virtuosity of  Konstanze sit harmoniously alongside the sparkling energy of Blonde and the irresistible comedy of Osmin. Die Entführung aus dem Serail is unusual in Mozart’s work as it bridges two periods in his opera-writing career: the spontaneity of youth which is drawing to a close and the mastery of his fully mature writing. Pervaded with faux exoticism, yet subtle and irresistibly tender, this cocktail was a source of inspiration for Rossini some years later. Julien Chauvin and his young team will capture every ounce of its zest.
