Comic operetta in three acts The Bat / Die Fledermaus acclaimed work by Johann Strauss Jr. was first performed in 1874 in Vienna, immediately becoming synonymous with the operetta genre. In just six years, the operetta was staged in more than 170 theaters in the German-speaking world, which clearly illustrates its enormous popularity. Many call it the operetta of operettas, Gustav Mahler declared it the best comic opera, and Franz Liszt, Richard Wagner, Johannes Brahms, Arturo Toscanini, Herbert von Karajan, Leonard Bernstein and many other great artists praised it. The libretto was written by Richard Genée and Karl Haffner based on the farce The Prison by Julius Roderich Benedix and the vaudeville play Le Révellion by Henri Meilhac and Ludovic Halévy. Born from a vaudeville-type theatrical lacridia, it has all the features, primarily orchestral and vocal, comic operas from the time of Mozart and Rossini. Combining the Parisian penchant for parody with the Viennese charm that is never sentimental, Strauss created a piece that, after being directed by Max Reinhardt on the stage of the Berlin Opera in 1928, became a full-fledged part of opera repertoires around the world. Šišmiš returns in style and deservedly to the biggest theater stage in Zagreb on the eve of the Christmas and New Year holidays, as befits it, under the baton of Srba Dinić and directed by Krešimir Dolenčić.

Komična opereta u tri čina Šišmiš / Die Fledermaus hvaljeno djelo Johanna Straussa mlađega praizvedeno je 1874. u Beču, odmah postavši sinonimom operetnoga žanra. U samo šest godina opereta je postavljena u više od 170 kazališta njemačkoga govornog područja, što jasno ilustrira njezinu golemu popularnost. Mnogi je nazivaju operetom nad operetama, Gustav Mahler ju je proglasio najboljom komičnom operom, a hvalili su je i Franz Liszt, Richard Wagner, Johannes Brahms, Arturo Toscanini, Herbert von Karajan, Leonard Bernstein i mnogi drugi veliki umjetnici. Libreto su napisali Richard Genée i Karl Haffner na temelju farse Zatvor Juliusa Rodericha Benedixa i vodviljskoga komada Le Révellion Henrija Meilhaca i Ludovica Halévyja. Nastala iz kazališne lakrdije vodviljskoga tipa posjeduje sve značajke, prvenstveno orkestralne i vokalne, komične opere još iz vremena Mozarta i Rossinija. Sjedinjujući parišku sklonost parodiji s bečkim šarmom koji nika- da nije sentimentalan, Strauss je stvorio djelo koje je poslije režije Maxa Reinhardta na sceni berlinske Opere 1928. postalo punopravnim dijelom oper- nih repertoara diljem svijeta. Šišmiš se u velikome stilu i zasluženo vraća na najveću zagrebačku kazališnu pozornicu uoči božićnih i novogodišnjih blagdana, kako mu i priliči, pod dirigentskom palicom Srbe Dinića u režiji Krešimira Dolenčića.
