The renowned choreographer and director Arila Siegert, best known at the Mittelsächsisches Theater for her productions of Eugen Onegin, La Bohème and Anatevka, is devoting herself to a one-act opera: Francis Poulenc's The Human Voice, based on Jean Cocteau's one-person play of the same name.
Leonora Weiß-del Rio takes on the only vocal role, a young woman who has been abandoned by her lover. She tries to contact him again by phone. The disruptive medium initially allows both of them to hide behind lies and subterfuges. On stage, however, we only see and hear the woman on the phone - the part of the man is revealed in her reactions. The singer is accompanied by a male and female dancer, who reflect love and death, the two states of mind of the woman.
In Freiberg, after the performance of Poulenc's opera in the theater, the spectators move to the opposite Nikolaikirche to Arvo Pärt's choral composition Te Deum. The setting of the traditional Latin hymn in praise of God is reminiscent of Gregorian chant, but then resolves its melodic progression in the orchestral voices. While the woman in the Human Voice has lost her individual happiness, in Pärt the view expands into the universal. The composer writes: “The work Te Deum was the search for something that is constantly slipping away, for something that has long been lost or has not yet been found, the search for something that supposedly does not exist and yet is real within ourselves and also outside of our existence. "
The Mittelsächsische Philharmonie plays, in the two operas under the direction of José Luis Gutiérrez, in Pärt's Te Deum under the direction of choir director Peter Kubisch. The performance of this composition for three choirs, piano, string orchestra and tape is also a contribution of the Mittel-Sächsisches Theater to the "Year of Choirs 2022" proclaimed by the German Choir Association. In addition to the opera choir, the Max Klinger Chamber Choir Leipzig, the a cappella chamber choir Freiberg and members of the youth choir “Voice Dance” will sing in the Nikolaikirche.
