It's almost a tradition: When the theater and the Lüneburg inner city churches work together, special projects arise that one partner could hardly implement alone. After MASS FÜR MASS and CARMINA, SLEEPING BROTHER and JEPHTHA, a music theater project of its own is now emerging in the St. Johanniskirche: THE CREATION by Joseph Haydn, over 200 years old, focuses on the celebration of the creation of the world. The oratorio is laid out almost like an opera and tells in three-dimensional pictures of light and darkness, earth and water, plants and animals - "and God saw that it was good!" But is everything all right? How have people dealt with this “marvel” since Adam and Eve made this world subject to them? In view of the debates about climate protection and sustainability, what questions do we have to ask ourselves today?

In Haydn's celebration of the creation of the world, we ask questions about the influence of human beings and turn the whole church into a stage, a space that itself is evidence of the incomparable possibilities of human beings to create something special and great. The aim is to create an evening of beauty and abysses, of hope and doubt. Here, in this creation, we are human - and we have a great responsibility!

DIE SCHÖPFUNG von Joseph Haydn, über 200 Jahre alt, stellt die Darstellung der Entstehung der Welt in den Mittelpunkt. Das Oratorium ist fast opernhaft angelegt und erzählt in plastischen Bildern von Licht und Dunkelheit, Erde und Wasser, Pflanzen und Tieren,
und schließlich vom Menschen – „und Gott sah, dass es gut war!“ Aber ist denn alles gut? Wie sind die Menschen mit diesem „Wunderwerk“ umgegangen, seit sie sich diese Welt Untertan gemacht haben? Welche Fragen müssen wir uns heute angesichts von Krieg und Vertreibung, der Debatten um Klimaschutz und Nachhaltigkeit, Ressourcenverschwendung und globaler Ungerechtigkeit stellen? Haydns Feier der Welterschaffung stellen wir Fragen nach dem Einfluss des Menschen gegenüber. Die ganze Kirche wird dabei zur Bühne, ein Raum, der selbst Ausweis der unvergleichlichen Möglichkeiten des Menschen ist, Besonderes und Großes zu erschaffen.

Tanz verbindet sich mit szenischer Darstellung und Videoprojektionen, Haydns Musik trifft auf Klänge von Max Richter. So soll ein Abend der Schönheit und der Abgründe entstehen, der Hoffnung und der Zweifel. Hier, in dieser Schöpfung, sind wir Mensch – und haben eine große Verantwortung!
