Der Komponist, Arrangeur und Pianist Tobias Schwencke hat viele musikalische Geschmäcker, die von Mozart über die Neue Musik bis zum Hip-Hop reichen. Damit passt er perfekt zum Ensemble Resonanz, das ebenfalls immer neue Klangabenteuer eingeht. Nach dem gemeinsamen Erfolgsprojekt »Mercy Seat – Winterreise«, bei dem Schubert auf den Rock-Barden Nick Cave traf, widmet man sich erneut einem Stummfilmklassiker, mit dem es das Elbphilharmonie Sommer-Festival eröffnet. 1925 drehte der legendäre Erich von Stroheim in den USA mit »The Merry Widow« eine freie Adaption von Franz Léhars Operette »Die lustige Witwe«.

Schon 2011 hatte Tobias Schwencke die Filmmusik zu Friedrich Wilhelm Murnaus »Faust – Eine deutsche Volkssage« komponiert, die das Ensemble Resonanz live ebenfalls im Thalia Theater spielte. Nun also geht es mit »The Merry Widow« nach Paris und da zwar auch ins Maxim. Doch Stroheim sollte den Léhar-Stoff ungemein erotisch aufladen und damit zu einer Satire über sexuelle Obsessionen machen. Und wer jetzt genauer hinguckt, wird in einer kleinen Nebenrolle einen kommenden Superstar entdecken – Clark Gable!

Ensemble Resonanz, which is also constantly embarking on new sound adventures. After the joint successful project »Mercy Seat – Winterreise«, in which Schubert met the rock bard Nick Cave, the focus is once again on a silent film classic, with which the Elbphilharmonie Summer Festival opens. In 1925, the legendary Erich von Stroheim shot »The Merry Widow« in the USA, a free adaptation of Franz Léhar's operetta »The Merry Widow«.

Tobias Schwencke had already composed the film music for Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau's »Faust – Eine deutsche Volkssage« in 2011, which Ensemble Resonanz also performed live in the Thalia Theater. So now we're off to Paris with »The Merry Widow« and there too to the Maxim. But Stroheim was supposed to charge the Lehar material immensely erotic and thus turn it into a satire about sexual obsessions. And if you take a closer look, you will discover an upcoming superstar in a small supporting role - Clark Gable!
