C’est en 1992, à trente-deux ans, que son désir irrépressible de chanter le conduit à prendre de sérieux cours d’art lyrique. Son immense talent fut alors découvert par Luciano Pavarotti et surtout Giuseppe Di Stefano, qui l’amena en Europe, en 1995, où il fit ses débuts dans La Sonnambula de Bellini à La Fenice de Venise.

Le ténor argentin Marcelo Álvarez figure aujourd’hui au rang des chanteurs lyriques les plus prestigieux. Acclamé dans toutes les maisons d’opéra du monde, il est né à Córdoba dans un milieu qui ne s’intéressait pas à la musique classique. Même s’il avait, à l’âge de 5 ans, débuté quelques leçons de chant, ses études en économie l’en éloignèrent vite au profit de la direction de l’usine de meubles familiale.

À l’âge de 32 ans, il étudie l’art lyrique, gagne plusieurs concours et débute à Venise en interprétant le rôle d’Elvino dans La Sonnambula de Bellini, puis dans celui d’Alfredo dans La Traviata de Verdi à Gênes. Depuis lors, sa carrière l’a conduit de Paris à New York en passant par Londres, Tokyo, Berlin ou Milan…

Son vaste répertoire se caractérise surtout par plus de 40 grands rôles de l’opéra romantique italien et français et les grands chefslyriques se le disputent. Il a collaboré avec les prestigieux James Levine, Zubin Mehta, Lorin Maazel, Gianandrea Gavazzeni, Claudio Abbado, Riccardo Muti, Riccardo Chailly, Antonio Pappano…

Il a également une discographie très impressionnante avec pas moins de 30 enregistrements avec les labels les plus importants dont Sony et Decca. Pour ce concert, Marcelo Álvarez sera accompagné par la talentueuse soprano Maria Aleida.

It was in 1992, at the age of thirty-two years, that his irrepressible desire to sing led him to take serious opera lessons. His immense talent was discovered thereafter by Luciano Pavarotti and especially Giuseppe Di Stefano, who brought him to Europe, in 1995, where he made his debut in Bellini’s La Sonnambula at La Fenice in Venice.

Argentinean tenor Marcelo Álvarez today features among the most prestigious of opera singers. Acclaimed in all the opera houses of the world, he was born in Córdoba in a milieu not interested in classical music. Even though, at the age of 5 years old, he started to take a few singing lessons, his studies in economics soon led him away from this to the management of the family furniture factory.

At the age of 32 years, he studied opera, won several competitions and made his debut in Venice performing the role of Elvino in La Sonnambula, then that of Alfredo in La Traviata in Genoa. Since then, his career has taken him from Paris to New York, via London, Tokyo, Berlin or Milan.
