Dans Le Messie, cette vaste fresque composée en 1741, Haendel déploie toutes les nuances de son art consommé de la peinture sonore.

Bien qu’il ait été écrit et créé pour le temps de Pâques, Le Messie de Haendel, « oratorio sacré » à mi-chemin entre l’église et la salle de concert, est maintenant fréquemment donné durant l’Avent, en héritage d’une tradition instaurée durant le XIXe siècle qui en fait un des piliers du répertoire traditionnel des fêtes. Peu d’œuvres semblent aussi indissociables des Arts Florissants que cet oratorio : leur enregistrement de 1993 reste une des références dans le domaine. Tout en s’illustrant également dans la redécouverte de pans entiers de musique oubliée, Les Arts Florissants ont marqué un vrai renouveau dans la façon d’aborder de célèbres partitions. Le Messie a gagné avec eux de nouvelles couleurs, plus en accord avec l’interprétation historique que défend William Christie. 

Précédés d’une ou plusieurs répétitions, les concerts participatifs invitent les spectateurs à prendre une part active au spectacle depuis la salle. Ils accompagnent les artistes qui sont sur scène en chantant ou en jouant des extraits d’oeuvres préparés au préalable.

La répétition pour le public participatif aura lieu le samedi 16 décembre de 16h à 19h.

Les spectateurs répètent avec Paul Agnew deux extraits du Messie, « Since by man came death » et « Hallelujah », qu’ils chanteront au concert.

Few works have been as famous across the centuries and continents as Handel's Messiah. First performed in Dublin in 1742, this oratorio consists of a skilful assembly of biblical texts - an originality in relation to the literary conventions of the time, which caused it to attract controversy. Nevertheless, it proved to be an immediate success, with no less than 36 performances given during Handel's lifetime...

Les Arts Florissants has long made the Messiah one of the flagship works of its repertoire. The numerous concert tours conducted by William Christie, as well as the recording released in 1994 by harmonia mundi, have made its interpretation a reference. However, Paul Agnew, now co-director of the Ensemble, had never before confronted this monument of Western music. This new concert tour opens a new page in the history of Les Arts Florissants!

And this experience will be made even more exceptional at the Philharmonie de Paris, where the audience will be invited to sing along with the artists during a participatory encore...
