Gigantiske ballettrin af gigantiske koreografer – en unik balletaften er i vente

Med Giant Steps præsenteres værker af tre af ballethistoriens store trinskabere, som har en helt enestående musikalitet og musikforståelse tilfælles.

George Balanchine forstod som ingen anden at skabe trin til ballerinaen, og Serenade er hans hyldest til kvinden i dansen. Den er skabt i 1935 og regnes som den første neoklassiske, abstrakte ballet, men alligevel aner man en følelse af længsel og melankoli i det midnatsblå mesterværk. Balanchine udtalte, at man i hans balletter skal kunne se musikken og høre dansen, og med Tjajkovskijs smukke musik som akkompagnement opfylder Serenade til fulde hans ord.

Finske Jorma Elo er en af tidens mest eftertragtede koreografer. I et helt nyt værk skabt til Den Kongelige Ballets mandlige dansere beskriver han sit hjemlands landskab set gennem de skulpturelle kroppe. Sibelius’ 4. symfoni er en helt abstrakt ballet kendetegnet ved Elos intense trinsprog og hæsblæsende tempo.

Etudes er Harald Landers kærlighedserklæring til den rene, klassiske dans og et af de største værker i ballethistorien. Den er bygget op over den klassiske ballets træningstime og begynder med de fem positioner for at ende i en flyvende finale. Etudes er en tidløs ballet om skønhed og æstetik og om glæden og begejstringen ved at danse.

Gargantuan ballet steps created by true giants of choreography – a unique ballet evening awaits

Giant Steps presents works by three of ballet history’s greatest choreographers, who share an entirely unique musicality and understanding of music.

Like few others, George Balanchine understood the art of creating choreography for the ballerina, and Serenade is his tribute to the woman in dance. The ballet premiered in 1935 and is considered the first neoclassical abstract ballet, although in this masterpiece bathed in midnight blue one senses an impassioned, melancholic undertow. Balanchine said that in his ballets you should be able to see the music and hear the dance. Accompanied by Tchaikovsky’s beautiful score, Serenade fully lives up to his promise.

Finnish Jorma Elo is one of the most sought-after choreographers of our time. In an entirely new work created for the male dancers of the Royal Danish Ballet, he conveys the landscape of his homeland as represented by the sculptured bodies of the dancers. Sibelius’ 4th Symphony is a wholly abstract ballet characterised by Elo’s intense step vernacular and frenetic tempo.

Etudes is Harald Lander’s declaration of love for pure, classical dance and one of the greatest works in ballet history. It builds on classical ballet training, beginning with the five positions and concluding with a flying finale. Etudes is a timeless ballet about beauty and aesthetics as well as the joy and excitement of dancing.
