Le metteur en scène Pierre Thirion-Vallet a choisi de situer l'action de cet opéra pétillant de Haydn en 1969, année des premiers pas de l'homme sur la Lune. En pleine guerre froide, l'astronome Ecclitico et ses deux acolytes (en réalité des espions soviétiques) sont approchés par Buonafede, faux cadre de la NASA et vrai espion italo-américain. Missionnés pour mettre la main sur le dossier secret ‟Objectif Lune”, les trois hommes font croire au crédule Buonafede qu'ils peuvent le faire voyager vers la Lune grâce à une liqueur lunaire, en fait un puissant somnifère… Une fable savoureuse et cynique !

Director Pierre Thirion-Vallet chose to set the action of this sparkling opera by Haydn in 1969, the year of man's first steps on the Moon. In the middle of the Cold War, the astronomer Ecclitico and his two acolytes (in reality Soviet spies) are approached by Buonafede, a fake NASA executive and real Italian-American spy. Missioned to get their hands on the secret ‟Objectif Lune” file, the three men make the gullible Buonafede believe that they can make him travel to the Moon thanks to a lunar liquor, in fact a powerful sleeping pill… A tasty and cynical fable!
