The Symphony Orchestra "Northern Symphony" of the St. Petersburg State Music Hall Theater (since March 2023 - the St. Petersburg State Musical Theater named after F. I. Chaliapin) was created on June 1, 2016; it was headed by Fabio Mastrangelo, artistic director of the theatre. At present, the Northern Symphony is one of the leading St. Petersburg orchestras. Famous pianists Ekaterina Mechetina, Polina Osetinskaya, Stanislav Chigadaev, Oleg Weinstein, Giuseppe Albanese and Ludovico Troncanetti, violinists Sergei Girshenko, Dmitry Sitkovetsky, Count Murzha and Alexei Lundin, cellists Sergei Roldugin and Denis Shapovalov, guitarist Dmitry Illarionov, saxophonist Ula Asdal performed with him Roccones, clarinetist Giampiero Sobrino, singers Ildar Abdrazakov, Larisa Dolina, Vasilisa Berzhanskaya and Svetlana Kasyan, soloists of the Mariinsky and Mikhailovsky theaters, the St. Petersburg House of Music. The ensemble's extensive repertoire includes works from different eras and styles, Russian and foreign classics, and works by contemporary composers.
In addition to its own venue, the orchestra performs at the St. Petersburg Philharmonic, the Concert Hall of the Mariinsky Theatre, the House of Scientists. M. Gorky of the Russian Academy of Sciences, etc. He regularly participates in the St. Petersburg International Festival "Opera for Everyone", the International Festival of Arts "Elena", the festival "Honorary Citizens of St. Petersburg", as well as in the programs of the St. Petersburg International Cultural Forum , St. Petersburg International Book Salon and the Music of the Palace Bridge festival.
The team is actively touring. In 2019, he took part in the Russian Seasons project in Germany, performed in Italy and Estonia. The most striking events in the life of the Northern Symphony in the 2021-2022 season were the multimedia musical project “ZHIVAGO. I went to the stage…”, concerts “Russian way. Симфонический оркестр «Северная Cимфония» Санкт-Петербургского государственного театра «Мюзик-Холл» (с марта 2023-го – Санкт-Петербургского государственного музыкального театра им. Ф. И. Шаляпина) был создан 1 июня 2016 года; его возглавил Фабио Мастранджело, художественный руководитель театра. В настоящее время «Северная Cимфония» – один из ведущих петербургских оркестров. С ним выступали известные пианисты Екатерина Мечетина, Полина Осетинская, Станислав Чигадаев, Олег Вайнштейн, Джузеппе Альбанезе и Лудовико Тронканетти, скрипачи Сергей Гиршенко, Дмитрий Ситковецкий, Граф Муржа и Алексей Лундин, виолончелисты Сергей Ролдугин и Денис Шаповалов, гитарист Дмитрий Илларионов, саксофонист Ула Асдаль Рокконес, кларнетист Джампьеро Собрино, певцы Ильдар Абдразаков, Лариса Долина, Василиса Бержанская и Светлана Касьян, солисты Мариинского и Михайловского театров, Санкт-Петербургского дома музыки. В обширном репертуаре коллектива – произведения разных эпох и стилей, русская и зарубежная классика, сочинения современных композиторов.
Помимо собственной площадки, оркестр выступает в Санкт-Петербургской филармонии, Концертном зале Мариинского театра, Доме ученых им. М. Горького РАН и т. д. Он регулярно участвует в Санкт-Петербургском международном фестивале «Опера – всем», Международном фестивале искусств «Елена», фестивале «Почетные граждане Санкт-Петербурга», а также в программах Санкт-Петербургского международного культурного форума, Санкт-Петербургского международного книжного салона и фестиваля «Музыка Дворцового моста».
Коллектив активно гастролирует. В 2019 году он принимал участие в проекте «Русские сезоны» в Германии, выступал в Италии и Эстонии. В рамках Фестиваля музыкальных театров России «Видеть музыку» оркестр участвовал в исполнении «Дона Паскуале» в Московском театре «Новая опера» им. Е. В. Колобова (2019) и «Летучей мыши» в Московском музыкальном театре «Геликон-опера» (2021).
Наиболее яркими событиями в жизни «Северной симфонии» в сезоне 2021–2022 годов стали мультимедийный музыкальный проект «ЖИВАГО. Я вышел на подмостки…», концерты «Русский путь. От Мусоргского до Прокофьева», «В начале было слово», «Русский вальс», «Ленинградская тетрадь», «Свет надежды» и др. В сентябре 2021-го состоялась премьера постановки «Волшебной флейты» при участии оркестра под управлением Фабио Мастранджело, хора и солистов театра.
В 2023 году коллектив играет музыку Рахманинова на различных площадках, в том числе в Мариинском театре; помимо этого, он выступил с концертом «Страсти по Шекспиру» в Государственной академической капелле Санкт-Петербурга и с целым рядом других концертов.
