Met een traditie van ruim honderd jaar, zijn de Matthäus-uitvoeringen van de Bachvereniging in Nederland een begrip. Deze eeuwenoude traditie ligt dit jaar in de handen van Johanna Soller, ster-dirigente in opkomst. 

De nog relatief jonge Duitse dirigente - ook claveciniste en organiste - wordt gezien als een van de meest veelbelovende nieuwe generatie-artiesten in de oude en barok-muziek. Daarnaast is Soller oprichter en artistiek leider van haar eigen ensemble Capella Sollertia. De Matthäus was het allereerste en daverend ontvangen concert van Capella Sollertia.  

De samenwerking met Johanna Soller markeert voor de Bachvereniging haar allereerste Matthäus-uitvoering onder leiding van een vrouwelijke dirigent.

With a tradition of over a hundred years, the Bach Society's St. Matthew performances are a household name in the Netherlands. This age-old tradition is this year in the hands of Johanna Soller, a rising star conductor. 

The relatively young German conductor - also a harpsichordist and organist - is seen as one of the most promising new generation artists in early and baroque music. In addition, Soller is the founder and artistic director of her own ensemble Capella Sollertia. The St. Matthew was the very first and resoundingly received concert of Capella Sollertia.  

The collaboration with Johanna Soller marks the Bach Society's very first St. Matthew performance led by a female conductor.
