OPERA2DAY and the Netherlands Bach Society took up the challenge to 'create the opera that Bach never wrote'. Successfully. JS Bach – The Apocalypse became "a brilliant new opera" according to an English reviewer. "A thoroughbred opera" (NRC) that “completely fits in the tradition of OPERA2DAY” (de Volkskrant). 

The opera tells the true story of Jan van Leyden. He founded an utopia that radicalized and resulted in a dictatorship. We follow Jan from his first enthusiasm, through his equally flamboyant and ruthless kingship, to his intimate confession on death row. This timeless story of radicalization comes to life with Bach's impressive, overwhelming and emotional music. Thanks to a compelling staging, an excellent cast and the choir and orchestra of the Netherlands Bach Society, this music can be heard and seen like never before.
