Bereits auf dem Höhepunkt seines Erfolges angekommen, komponierte Gioachino Rossini 1817 zur Eröffnung der römischen Karnevalsaison eine Oper auf Grundlage des berühmten Aschenputtel-Stoffes: Angelina, genannt Cenerentola, darf nicht mit ihrem Stiefvater Don Magnifico und dessen Töchtern Tisbe und Clorinda auf den Ball des Prinzen. Doch Alidoro, der geheimnisvolle Lehrer des Prinzen, verschafft ihr dort Zutritt und sie trifft den Diener des Prinzen wieder, der ihr schon im Hause Don Magnificos so offen zugetan war und sie ihm. Als Pfand ihrer Zuneigung übergibt sie ihm einen Armreif – nicht ahnend, dass der Diener niemand anderes als der Prinz selbst ist! Rossinis ›Semiseria‹ strotzt vor Witz, schnatterndem Parlando, himmelstürmenden Koloraturen und reinster Buffokunst, in die sich jedoch auch tragische Töne mischen. Nicht Magie oder die Gunst einer höher gestellten Person führen schließlich das Happy End herbei, sondern nur die Kraft und Tugend eines reinen Herzens. Mit »La Cenerentola« gibt der italienische Regisseur Damiano Michieletto sein Debüt in der Semperoper.

Already at the peak of his success, Gioachino Rossini composed an opera based on the famous Cinderella story in 1817 for the opening of the Roman carnival season: Angelina, called Cenerentola, is not allowed to go to the prince's ball with her stepfather Don Magnifico and his daughters Tisbe and Clorinda . But Alidoro, the prince's mysterious teacher, gives her access there and she meets the prince's servant again, who was already so openly fond of her in Don Magnifico's house and she of him. As a token of her affection, she gives him a bracelet - not realizing that the servant is none other than the prince himself! Rossini's ›Semiseria‹ is bursting with wit, chattering parlando, sky-storming coloraturas and the purest art of buffo, in which, however, tragic tones are also mixed. Ultimately, it is not magic or the favor of a higher-ranking person that brings about the happy ending, but only the strength and virtue of a pure heart. The Italian director Damiano Michieletto makes his debut at the Semperoper with »La Cenerentola«.
