Although La Clemenza di Tito is one of Mozart's works that are not familiar to the general public, its composition is contemporary with that of the famous Magic Flute, which was staged in 1791, the year of the author's death. Part of Clemenza's poor fortune is due to a genre, that of the eighteenth-century serious opera, already in decline at the time of the composition and, in this specific case, linked to the occasion to celebrate the coronation of Emperor Leopold II as King of Bohemia. . However, Mozart was able to animate the form and the drama of one of Metastasio's most celebrated texts with a vitality and sentimental realism that over the years had found its way to music through the ingenious tests of playful drama and the Dapontian trilogy. The show resumes a 2007 staging of the Petruzzelli Opera-Symphonic Foundation and Teatri di Bari directed by Walter Pagliaro, one of the most refined and original artists of the Italian theater, for years one of the leading authors of the Piccolo Teatro di Milano. Pagliaro, together with the scenographer Luigi Perego, has signed opera staging for the major Italian theaters.
