Nenavadne okoliščine, ki so spremljale nastanek tega še danes redko izvajanega Puccinijevega dela, ki si ga je vodstvo nekdanjega Carltheatra zamislilo kot nekakšen hibrid med opereto in opero Kavalir z rožo Richarda Straussa, so naposled obrodile sadove v podobi opere Lastovka s kar tremi dejanji. Kljub pristnim puccinijevskim harmonijam in kompleksni ljubezenski zgodbi med kurtizano Magdo in mladeničem Ruggerom pa njuna romanca močno spominja na tisto iz Verdijeve Traviate, zato si obetajte bleščeč odrski sijaj, strasti in fantazije mladostnih ljubezenskih sanj.

The unusual circumstances surrounding the creation of this rarely performed work by Puccini, which the management of the former Carltheater conceived as a kind of hybrid between operetta and Richard Strauss’ opera “Der Rosenkavalier,” ultimately bore fruit in the form of the three-act opera “The Swallow.” Despite featuring authentic Puccinian harmonies and a complex love story between the courtesan Magda and the young man Ruggero, their romance strongly recalls that of Verdi’s “La Traviata,” so expect dazzling stage splendor, passion, and the fantasy of youthful love dreams.

Die ungewöhnlichen Umstände, die mit der Entstehung dieses heute selten aufgeführten Werkes von Puccini einhergingen, das die Leitung des ehemaligen Carltheaters als eine Art Hybrid zwischen Operette und Richard Strauss’ Oper Der Rosenkavalier konzipiert hatte, trugen schließlich Früchte in Form der Oper Die Schwalbe mit drei Akten. Trotz authentischer Puccinianischer Harmonien und einer komplexen Liebesgeschichte zwischen der Kurtisane Magda und dem jungen Mann Ruggero erinnert ihre Romanze stark an diejenige in Verdis La Traviata, daher erwahrtet sie blendendee Bühnenglanzes, Leidenschaft und Fantasie jugendlicher Liebesträume.
