Pour le Chœur d’Angers Nantes Opéra, c’est l’occasion d’une première rencontre avec Sascha Goetzel, le nouveau directeur musical de l’Orchestre National des Pays de la Loire. Et de retrouvailles avec un chef-d’œuvre du répertoire germanique, Un requiem allemand de Johannes Brahms.
Imposante fresque musicale, plus poétique que religieuse, Un requiem allemand est une œuvre très singulière, marquée par le deuil, certes, mais aussi par l’esprit de consolation, et même par l’espoir à certains moments. Brahms y cite la Bible de Luther, et non les prières de la liturgie catholique, pour s’éloigner de toute cette liturgie et signifier qu’il s’agit bien de « sa » vision de la mort, comme le suggère aussi l’utilisation de l’article indéfini « un ». De la mort mais aussi de ceux qui pleurent leurs défunts et vont cependant poursuivre leur vie au milieu de la nature et parmi les hommes. À l’opposé des requiem de Mozart ou de Verdi, rien de spectaculaire, rien de théâtral dans cette musique ; au contraire une inspiration intériorisée, intimiste, qui va droit au cœur. Sascha Goetzel, le nouveau directeur de l’Orchestre National des Pays de la Loire, a pensé ces trois concerts comme une célébration des chœurs, celui associé à sa nouvelle institution et celui d’Angers Nantes Opéra, auxquels il a proposé, en ouverture de programme, un florilège de moments opératiques, de Tannhäuser à Carmen, avec un détour par l’Italie de Puccini et Boïto, qui disent tout son amour des voix et du répertoire lyrique.

For the Chœur d'Angers Nantes Opéra, this is the occasion for a first meeting with Sascha Goetzel, the new musical director of the Orchester National des Pays de la Loire. And a reunion with a masterpiece of the Germanic repertoire, A German Requiem by Johannes Brahms.

Imposing musical fresco, more poetic than religious, A German Requiemis a very singular work, marked by mourning, of course, but also by the spirit of consolation, and even by hope at times. Brahms quotes there the Bible of Luther, and not the prayers of the catholic liturgy, to move away from all this liturgy and to signify that it is indeed about "his" vision of death, as the use also suggests it of the indefinite article "a". Of death but also of those who mourn their deceased and will nevertheless continue their life in the middle of nature and among men. Unlike the requiems of Mozart or Verdi, nothing spectacular, nothing theatrical in this music; on the contrary, an interiorized, intimate inspiration that goes straight to the heart. Sascha Goetzel, the new director of the Orchester National des Pays de la Loire, thought of these three concerts as a celebration of choirs,Tannhäuser to Carmen , with a detour through the Italy of Puccini and Boïto, who express his love of voices and the lyrical repertoire.
