One of the most outstanding Polish opera singers and solo singing teacher. She was born in Lithuania in Naliboki in the province of Nowogródek. In 1947, after graduating from the Vilnius Conservatory, she was a soloist of the Lithuanian Opera and Ballet Theatre. on the stages of the Bolshoi Theater in Moscow and the Mariinsky Theater in St. Petersburg (then Leningrad). She came to Poland in 1959 and became a soloist of the Łódź Opera, and later also opera theaters in Warsaw and Bytom. Jadwiga Pietraszkiewicz's voice, strong and characteristic timbre, as well as her enormous stage temperament, were admired by the audience in memorable performances, including: Tatiana in "Eugene Onegin", Liza in "Queen of Spades" and Maria in "Mazepa" by Pyotr Tchaikovsky, Ksenia in "Boris Godunov" by Modest Mussorgsky, Yaroslavna in "Prince Igor" by Alexander Borodin, Amelia in "Masked Ball" and Leonora in "Force of Destiny" by Giuseppe Verdi, Mimi in "La bohème" by Giacomo Puccini or Santuzza in "Peasant Chivalry" by Pietro Mascagni. She successfully performed the title roles of Aida (Verdi), Tosca and the Girl from the West (Puccini) and Carmen (Bizet). She also delighted interpreting characters from Stanisław Moniuszko's national operas: Halka, Countess and Hanna in "The Haunted Manor". In the early 1960s, the artist began teaching, which she continued for over 40 years. At that time, she educated several generations of singers at the PWSM in Łódź, and later at the Academy of Music. Her students included Urszula Kryger, Agnieszka Makówka, Katarzyna Nowak-Stańczyk, Anna Walczak, Joanna Woś, Andrzej Niemierowicz and Piotr Nowacki. She was a two-time winner of the award of the Minister of Culture and Art. Knight's Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta and the Gold Medal for Merit to Culture Gloria Artis. She died in Łódź in May 2013 at the age of 94.
