Wer glaubt, dass erfolgreiche Musicals nicht innovativ sein können, kennt Natascha, Pierre und der große Komet von 1812 nicht! 2017 eroberte Dave Malloys auf Tolstois Krieg und Frieden basierende „Electropop-Oper“ den Broadway im Sturm. Das riesige Imperial Theater wurde für die Show komplett umgebaut, sodass sich das Publikum mitten im musizierenden Ensemble und schauspielenden Orchester wiederfand. Der um 1810 angesiedelte Stoff wird respektlos und virtuos erzählt und mit so unwiderstehlicher Energie auf die Bühne gebracht, dass Tolstois Klassiker in New York bald vergriffen war.

Die junge und impulsive Natascha kommt nach Moskau, um dort die Rückkehr ihres Verlobten von der Front abzuwarten. Als sie in den Bann des skrupellosen Verführers Anatol gerät, ist es an Pierre, einem Freund der Familie, die Scherben ihres Rufs aufzusammeln. Und das, obwohl Pierre selbst in einer existenziellen Krise steckt.

Kühn, unerschrocken, keine Genregrenze scheuend: Malloys Rachmaninow-Musical Préludes war in Linz bis unters Dach ausverkauft, jetzt folgt mit Komet erstmals in Europa sein größter Erfolg.

Anyone who thinks that successful musicals can't be innovative doesn't know Natascha, Pierre and the great comet of 1812 ! In 2017, Dave Malloy's Electropop Opera, based on Tolstoy's War and Peace, took Broadway by storm. The huge Imperial Theater was completely remodeled for the show, so the audience found themselves right in the middle of the ensemble making music and the orchestra playing. The material, set around 1810, is told irreverently and with virtuosity and brought to the stage with such irresistible energy that Tolstoy's classic was soon out of print in New York.

Young and impulsive Natasha comes to Moscow to await the return of her fiancé from the front. When she falls under the spell of the unscrupulous seducer Anatol, it's up to Pierre, a family friend, to pick up the pieces of her reputation. And this despite the fact that Pierre himself is in an existential crisis.

Bold, fearless, not afraid of any genre boundaries: Malloy's Rachmaninoff musical Préludes was sold out in Linz to the roof, now with Komet his greatest success follows for the first time in Europe.
