Den tyske bassanger Matthias Goerne er et fænomen blandt vor tids sangstjerner, der altid betager med sin utrolige stemme og sin intensitet. Han går kompromisløst efter kernen i kunsten. Og med sin unikke evne til at forene sprog, klang og melodi er der få i verden, der kan finde så store dybder i vokalmusikken som han.

Ved denne koncert synger Matthias Goerne et sjældent hørt storværk af Dmitrij Sjostakovitj: Suite over digte af Michelangelo, som blev et af Sjostakovitjs sidste værker. Det er nærmest en symfoni for en enkelt sanger med orkester – overvældende, koncentreret musik, der er komponeret i en stor russisk tradition og kræver det yderste af sangsolisten.

Anden del af koncerten er helliget det russisk eventyr Ildfuglen. Stravinskijs fortælling om prinsen, der får hjælp af en magisk fugl til at ødelægge den onde troldmands slot, er en mageløs musikalsk oplevelse. Ildfuglen dirigeres ved denne koncert af den fremragende tjekkiske dirigent Petr Popelka, som bl.a. er kendt fra Malko Konkurrencen i 2018.

The German bass singer Matthias Goerne is a phenomenon among the singing stars of our time, who always captivates with his incredible voice and his intensity. He uncompromisingly pursues the essence of art. And with his unique ability to unite language, timbre and melody, there are few in the world who can find such great depths in vocal music as he does.

At this concert, Matthias Goerne sings a rarely heard masterpiece by Dmitri Shostakovich: Suite of Poems by Michelangelo , which became one of Shostakovich's last works. It is almost a symphony for a single singer with orchestra – overwhelming, concentrated music composed in a great Russian tradition and demanding the utmost from the singing soloist.

The second part of the concert is devoted to the Russian fairy tale The Firebird . Stravinsky's tale of the prince who is helped by a magical bird to destroy the evil sorcerer's castle is an unparalleled musical experience. The firebird is conducted at this concert by the excellent Czech conductor Petr Popelka, who, among other things, is known from the Malko Competition in 2018.
