«Сорочинская ярмарка» - возобновление постановки/ “The Fair at Sorochyntsi” – revival

Night on Bald Mountain, the Red Scroll and other devilry, imbued with a unique Little Russian flavor and special, purely Gogolian humor - this is the background against which the love of Gritsko and Parasi, the heroes of the Sorochinskaya Fair, blossoms, the story from the cycle Evenings on a Farm near Dikanka, set to music by the brilliant Mussorgsky. Not completed by the early departed composer, the Sorochinskaya Fair saw many attempts to give it a finished look, but only the revision by Vissarion Shebalin (made on the basis of the research work of Pavel Lamm, who painstakingly restored and published the entire surviving author’s text, along with all versions and rough sketches) turned out to be - truly viable.

Boris Alexandrovich Pokrovsky loved Gogol very much and admired Mussorgsky. "Sorochinsky Fair" undoubtedly belongs to the best directorial works of the Master of the last period of his work. For this performance, the Chamber Musical Theater received the State Prize of Russia.

Ночь на Лысой горе, Красная свитка и прочая чертовщина, пронизанная неповторимым малороссийским колоритом и особенным, чисто гоголевским юмором — таков фон, на котором расцветает любовь Грицько и Параси, героев «Сорочинской ярмарки», повести из цикла «Вечера на хуторе близ Диканьки», положенной на музыку гениальным Мусоргским. Не завершенная рано ушедшим композитором, «Сорочинская ярмарка» знавала немало попыток придать ей законченный вид, но только редакция Виссариона Шебалина (выполненная на основе исследовательской работы Павла Ламма, кропотливо восстановившего и опубликовавшего весь сохранившийся авторский текст вместе со всеми вариантами и черновыми набросками) оказалась по-настоящему жизнеспособной.

Борис Александрович Покровский очень любил Гоголя и преклонялся перед Мусоргским. «Сорочинская ярмарка», бесспорно, принадлежит к лучшим режиссерским работам Мастера последнего периода его творчества. За этот спектакль Камерный музыкальный театр получил Государственную премию России.
