The Civic Orchestra of Chicago opens its season with three works all composed in the United States, anchored by Rachmaninov’s Symphonic Dances. Composed during his exile in the United States, the suite combines memories of old Russia with a jazzy, new-world exuberance. Commissioned by the CSO, former Mead Composer-in-Residence Elizabeth Ogonek’s 2017 dance suite expresses what she calls “a sense of overwhelming happiness and joy.” John Adams’ kinetic showpiece Short Ride in a Fast Machine evokes an exhilarating ride in a sports car.

Tickets are free, $5 fee applies.
