Henry Purcell: The Fairy Queen N. Harnoncourt

Inspired by A Midsummer Night's Dream , The Fairy Queen is a semi-opera for which Purcell composed the music. It is a hybrid form skillfully combining theatre, music, song and dance. The bewitchment of Titania, the queen of the fairies, will be the source of much torment, for the couples in love and for the troop of craftsmen who prepare the tragedy Pyramus and Thisbe. All this in an enchanted forest populated by fairies and elves. After Chabrier's L'Étoile, Jean-Philippe Desrousseaux (stage director) and Alexis Kossenko (musical direction), take us into another world that is just as wacky, whimsical and magical!
