The two-part ORF III production "André Hellers Hauskonzerte" shown last year, with a top-class cast with Camilla Nylund and Günther Groissböck, is followed this year by another musical concert film project based on an idea by André Heller. In it, opera star Camilla Nylund breathes new life into the “Great American Songbook” together with the ORF Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra under the baton of chief conductor Marin Alsop.

A total of 14 iconic songs, all dedicated to the theme of love, revive the spirit of US show business from the 1930s to 1960s. Each of the 14 titles is dressed in a new, individually designed guise - from an intimate piano song with saxophone to a large orchestral song. The arrangements specially made for this production come from Christof Unterberger, Florian Sitzmann and Leonard Eröd. The visual language of the concert film project is also unusual for a 21st-century production: black-and-white shots take the audience back to the era of US popular music. Robert Neumüller is responsible for the TV direction.

What does a warm summer evening sound like? Maybe like in the first Grafenegg concert of the RSO Vienna with chief conductor Marin Alsop and the wonderful soprano Camilla Nylund. In »Knoxville: Summer of 1915« Samuel Barber tells of an idyllic family summer evening from the point of view of a child. The literary template comes from the American author James Agee, who reflects on his father's early death, while Barber was just processing his father's serious illness at the time of the composition.
Family upheavals – albeit of a happier kind – also represent the introduction to Schumann’s 3rd symphony. It was written shortly after the whole family moved from Dresden to Düsseldorf and testifies to Schumann’s great creative joy and an almost euphoric mood at the time of composition.
