Comme dans un rêve d’amour... Le romantisme de l’inexaucé dans les lieder de Richard Wagner, Hugo Wolf et Franz Liszt
Cette soirée débutera avec Richard Wagner et sa fascination pour l’amour idéal et inaccessible, ce « Liebestod » que l’on trouve dans l’opéra Tristan und Isolde. Écrits à la même époque, les Wesendonck-Lieder sont indissociables de l’amour du compositeur pour sa muse Mathilde Wesendonck, épouse de son mécène et donc inaccessible amante, mais divine source d’inspiration. Le thème de l’inexaucé cher à Wagner se retrouve dans la suite du récital, avec les trois Michelangelo-Lieder de Hugo Wolf, l’un de ses fervents admirateurs, et le Liebestraum de Franz Liszt. 
   
Ces dernières années, Franz-Josef Selig a prouvé dans Tristan und Isolde et Parsifal qu’il était l’une des plus grandes basses wagnériennes du moment. Il partagera la scène avec la soprano sud-africaine Masabane Cecila Rangwanasha, lauréate en 2021 du concours de chant BBC Cardiff Singer of the World et récente récipiendaire du Herbert von Karajan Musikpreis. Pour Inge Spinette, qui prend congé de notre maison après toutes ces années, la boucle est ainsi bouclée. Alles endet, was entstehet…

As in a dream of love … The romanticism of the unfulfilled in the art of the lied by Wagner, Liszt and Wolf
The starting point for this evening is Richard Wagner and his fascination with the unattainable, ideal beloved, or with the ‘Liebestod’ as found in Tristan und Isolde. The Wesendonck Lieder originated in the same period as this opera and are inextricably linked to Wagner’s love for Mathilde Wesendonck – as the wife of his patron, an impossible mistress, but as a muse, a source of divine inspiration. Wagner’s love of the unfulfilled continues thematically during this lied evening with Franz Liszt’s Liebestraum and the three Michelangelo Lieder by Hugo Wolf, who greatly admired Wagner.  

In recent years, Franz-Josef Selig has proved in both Tristan und Isolde and Parsifal that he is among the very greatest Wagner basses of the moment. He will share the stage with South African soprano Masabane Cecilia Rangwanasha, winner of the Song Prize at the 2021 BBC Cardiff Singer of the World competition and the recent winner of the Herbert von Karajan Prize. And for Inge Spinette, who will be taking her leave of our house after all these years, her career has now come full circle. ‘Alles endet, was entstehet …’
