Bio: BÜLENT BEZDÜZ (Tenor)
Born in Turkey, Bülent Bezdüz graduated from the Music Academy of Gazi University in Ankara. Following a successful entry at the 1st Leyla Gencer Voice Competition in 1995 (İstanbul), he won an EU Fellowship to join the European Opera Centre and made his European debut in the title role of Mozart´s Lucio Silla on tour in the UK, Ireland and Denmark. A student of Roman Werlinski, and recipient of a fellowship from the French Ministry of Culture, he continued his studies at the CNIPAL Marseille at Master’s level in 1998 and was a Laureat of the Concours International de Chant de Paris.
Bülent has worked with many prestigious conductors and directors, including Sir Colin Davis, Riccardo Chailly, Vladimir Jurowski, David Parry, Richard Jones, Phyllida Lloyd, David Alden, Enrique Mazzola, Antonello Allemandi, Antonio Pirolli and Olivier Py.
His most notable appearances have included FENTON Falstaff with the London Symphony Orchestra under Sir Colin Davis, the recording of which won a Grammy® Award, ALFREDO La Traviata at De Vlaamse Opera, Göteborg and Malmö Operas, FENTON for both the Glyndebourne Festival Opera and Opéra de Lausanne, RODOLFO La Bohème at Bühnen der Stadt Köln, Canadian Opera Company and Göteborg Opera and GENNARO Lucrezia Borgia at Opéra de Marseille. He sang EDGARDO Lucia di Lammermoor at Portland Opera, Opéra de Montpellier, Teatro Colon Buenos Aires, Teatro Pergolesi, Greek National Opera in Athens, Göteborg Opera and Scottish Opera, Palermo, as well as ALFREDO at Grand Théâtre de Dijon, and Théâtre de Caen, NEMORINO L’Elisir d’Amore at Opéra de Nancy and Opéra de Lille, and LEICESTER Maria Stuarda at Opera North and in concert with Latvian Symphonie Orchestra, LENSKY Eugene Onegin, and MACDUFF Macbeth at Mersin and İstanbul State Operas. Bülent’s most recent and future engagements include Un Ballo in Maschera at Maria Bieşu Festival in Chişinau (September 2019), Beethoven 9th Symphony, L’Elisir d’Amore and Carmen (Autumn 2019), Dieterliebe Recomposed in İstanbul (March 2020).
Since 1992, Bülent is resident soloist at the Mersin State Opera, Turkey. Besides classical operatic roles, he is particularly fond of singing Turkish folk songs in symphonic arrangement.
