Bio: Hailed for her “warm voice” by Germany’s Music Heute, Polish soprano Ewa Płonka’s repertoire encompasses demanding spinto repertoire including the title role of Puccini’s Turandot. This season debuts include: at the Teatro alla Scala as Lady Macbeth, under the baton of Maestro Riccardo Chailly in the new production by Davide Livermore, as Lady Macbeth in Deutsche Oper am Rhein in the new production by Michael Thalheimer under the baton of Maestro Stefan Blunier, as Aida with The National Theater in Prague, return to St. Margarethen festival as Abigaille in new production of Nabucco, on the concert stage Płonka returns to The Dallas Opera and debuts at National Music Forum in Wroclaw. Future seasons include debuts in The Royal Opera House Covent Garden, Bayerische Staatsoper, La Monnaie, Teatro Massimo, Berlin Staatsoper Unter den Linden. Past Debuts include Lady Macbeth * in new production of Macbeth at the Opera Philadelphia (postponed), Aida* at the Polish National Opera Warsaw, Tosca in the new production in Virginia Opera, Turandot in the new production in Oper im Steinbruch, Austria, her critically acclaimed Giovanna Seymour in Donizetti’s new production of Anna Bolena in Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe, Azucena in Verdi's Il Trovatore under the baton of Maestro Jader Bignamini in Oper Frankfurt in a new co-production with the Royal Opera House Covent Garden. On the concert stage she performed several times with The Dallas Opera under the baton of Music Director Emmanuelle Villaume. She debuted with the Grant Park Music Festival in Chicago for Delius’ rarely performed A Mass of Life and Nashville Symphony as soprano solo in Rachmaninoff's The Bells, she returned to Carnegie Hall in Karol Szymanowski’s Stabat Mater with the Oratorio Society of New York in a concert marking the centennial of Polish independence, with Finland’s Oulu Symphony Orchestra singing Richard Wagner’s Wesendonck Lieder led by conductor Jessica Cottis, with Opéra Orchestre de Montpellier/ France as the soloist in Mahler’s Symphony No. 3 with the conductor Michael Schønwandt, with the San Antonio Symphony for Mendelssohn’s oratorio Elijah under the baton of music director Sebastian Lang-Lessing. Ewa Płonka has sung concerts at Jazz at Lincoln Center under the baton of Eve Queler, with the Munich Radio Orchestra and Nürnberg Symphony Orchestra and recitals in New York City, Austin, Texas, Neumarkt, Germany and Poland. Ewa Płonka graduated from The Juilliard School, where she obtained an Artist Diploma in Opera Studies. She holds additional degrees in piano performance from The Poznań Academy of Music in Poland, where she received her Bachelor’s and her first Master’s Degree with honors. She also earned a second master’s degree from Oklahoma City University and a doctorate from the University of Utah, Salt Lake City, both in piano performance with secondary majors in vocal performance. As a concert pianist, Ms. Płonka has received multiple awards in international competitions and has performed solo recitals and with orchestras in the U.S., Poland, Israel, France, Italy, Germany, and Norway.
