Tschaikowskys Oper unter Valery Gergiev, und rundum neu besetzt: Jubel für aufwühlende Dramatik – und Olga Borodina im Zentrum.
Wiens Opernfreunde wußten es schon immer: Ohne Sänger, ohne Dirigenten kann man keine Oper spielen. (Als hätte es je des Nachweises solcher Behauptung bedurft.) Vom ersten Takt an gelingen Valery Gergiev und dem Staatsopernorchester eine hervorragende und in sich geschlossene musikalische Deutung von Tschaikowskis chef d’œuvre. Bewundernswert, wie Gergiev mit kleinsten, flirrenden Bewegungen seiner Hände die dynamische Palette durchmißt, Einsätze gibt, orchestrale Zurückhaltung fordert. Und das Orchester nicht nur in den Soli zu Höchstleistungen animiert. Dieser Abend fordert Orchester, Chor, Solisten — und das Publikum. Wer sich darauf einläßt, dem danken es alle Kräfte des Hauses mit einem Abend, der in der Rückschau gewiß als Höhepunkt (nicht nur) dieser Saison Bestand haben wird

'La Bohème' also plays at Christmas time. Johannes Leiacker's blue-framed stage design is wintry. It's snowing and snowing. The freezing artists live on a cinemascope-sized pedestal close to heaven. A counter in the Latin Quarter, a giant saluting upside down -Nicholas, shine of lights, a chapel with Mickey Mouse masks, the night city in the distance: it's nice to look at.
Para el final, y expresamente, hay que citar al más que interesante Masetto del barítono Josep-Ramon Olivé y a la soprano Leonor Bonilla como Zerlina, quien fue de menos a más para acabar deslumbrando con una voz de gran calidad, muy cuidada línea canora y perfecta adecuación al rol.
