Bio: John Paul Huckle, Basso Anglo-American Bass John Paul Huckle was born in Pittsburgh, PA. He completed his studies at the Boston University Opera Institute where he performed the roles of Simone GIANNI SCHICCHI, Raimondo LUCIA DI LAMERMOOR, Olin Blitch SUSANNAH, Chucho in William Bolcolm’s one act LUCREZIA and Olivier THÉRÈSE RAQUIN. Huckle completed his Bachelor’s degree, Performance diploma and Master of Music degree at Indiana University under the tutelage of Dr. Robert Harrison, Mr. Timothy Noble, and legendary bass Mr. Giorgio Tozzi. Previous roles include Nikitsch BORIS GODUNOV, Bonze MADAMA BUTTERFLY and Graalsritter PARSIFAL for Teatro Regio di Torino; Sarastro and Second Armed Man DIE ZAUBERFLÖTE, Simone GIANNI SCHICCHI, Colline LA BOHÈME, Laurent ROMEO ET JULIETTE, Antonio LE NOZZE DI FIGARO and Zuniga CARMEN for Teatro Carlo Felice di Genova; Simone GIANNI SCHICCHI for Festival Pucciniano, Torre del Lago; Monterone RIGOLETTO for Teatro Verdi di Pisa; Sparafucile RIGOLETTO for Teatro Antonio Belloni; Sarastro/Sprecher DIE ZAUBERFLÖTE, Mandarino TURANDOT and Angelotti TOSCA for Deutsche Oper Berlin; for Teatro Carlo Felice in Genova; Angelotti TOSCA for Taormina Festival Sicily; Roderich THE FALL OF THE HOUSE OF USHER (World Premiere) for Teatro del Giglio di Lucca; Monterone RIGOLETTO for Teatro Verdi in Pisa; and Lodovico OTELLO, Colline LA BOHÈME, Sparafucile RIGOLETTO, Basilio IL BARBIERE DI SIVIGLIA, and Zuniga CARMEN for Lyrique-en-Mer Festival in France. In 2015/16 season he joined the ensemble at Deutsche Oper Berlin where his roles included Zaccaria NABUCCO, Donner DAS RHEINGOLD, Basilio BARBIERE DI SIVIGLIA and Fiesco SIMON BOCCANEGRA. During the 2010-2011 season he was signed to the Deutsche Oper Berlin where he sang and covered in the productions of TURANDOT, LES DIALOGUES DES CARMELITES, LA BOHÈME, TOSCA, also working at Teatro Regio di Torino on their productions of BORIS GODUNOV, MADAMA BUTTERFLY and PARSIFAL as part of his First Place award at the New York City Opera Foundation Scholarship awards. As a young artist, he attended the programs of Central City Opera, Tulsa Opera, Utah Festival Opera, Opera North, Brevard Music Center, and the Sarasota Opera. While at the Sarasota Opera he received the distinguished Leo Rogers Outstanding Apprentice award. During his time as a young artist, his roles included Zuniga CARMEN, Rambaldo and I Maggiordomo LA RONDINE, the title-role THE MIKADO, Theseus and Bottom A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM¸ Il servo di Doge I DUE FOSCARI, Sciarrone and Angelotti TOSCA, and made his professional debut in 2007 as Sparafucile RIGOLETTO with the Cleveland Opera. During the 2015-2016 season, John Paul was an ensemble member of Opera Wroclaw, Poland. While there, he performed Gremin EUGENE ONEGIN, Bonze MADAMA BUTTERFLY, Banco MACBETH and Angelotti TOSCA. This same season he performed Bonze MADAMA BUTTERFLY at the Teatro del Giglio in Lucca, Teatro Goldoni di Livorno, and the Teatro Sociale di Rovigo, as well as Pietro SIMONE BOCCANEGRA with the teatro Carlo Felice in Genova. He also covered Talbot MARIA STUARDA for the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, and this past summer, The Imperial Commissioner MADAME BUTTERFLY with the teatro dell’opera di Roma at Caracalla. His 2016-2017 season includes returning to the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, covering Ensemble 5 THE NOSE, the Teatro Comunale Luciano Pavarotti as Leone and covering the title-role ATTILA, the teatro San Carlo di Napoli as Der Pfleger ELEKTRA and his debut as Rocco FIDELIO with the Longborough Opera Festival, UK.
