Bio: Karina Flores was born in Shachty in Russia and graduated from the college choir and Rostov Conservatory of Rachmaninov with Professor Margarita Hudaverdova. She proceeded with her studies in Italy at the "Accademia di Santa Cecilia" with Renata Scotto.
Between 2008 and 2010 she won the third prize in the competition G. Vishnevskaya in Moscow, the second prize in the competition "Ottavio Ziino" in Rome, and the second prize in the competition "Flaviano Labo" in Piacenza.
For her interpretation of Adriana Lecouvreur at the Landestheater Innsbruck conducted by Francesco Angelico and directed by Bruno Klimek she was nominated in the category "Best female performer" for the Music Theatre Prize 2016 in Vienna.
In 2017, Karina returned to Innsbruck for the role of Amelia in Un ballo in maschera, conducted by F. Angelico and directed by Taddheus Strassberger, at the Teatro Politeama di Lecce she gave her debut as Madama Butterfly.
In the season 2017/18 Karina gave her debut at the Stadttheater Braunschweig singing as Tosca, conducted by Srba Dinic and directed by Roland Schwab, and at the Teatro Filarmonico di Verona singing as Desdemona in Otello conducted by Antonino Fogliani and directed by Fancesco Micheli. In April she will perform at the Teatro Lirico di Cagliari as Madama Butterfly. In August she sang in Shostakovitsch 14th Symphony in St. Petersburg and in Berlin.
She will open the season 2018/19 at the Teatro Regio di Torino as Leonora in Il trovatore conducted by Pinchas Steinberg. She sings in Turin also the soprano part in Brahms’ Ein deutsches Requiem also conducted by Maestro Steinberg. In Washington she will give her debut with the NSO Orchestra conducted by Gianandrea Noseda in Britten’s War Requiem. In Kassel she will sing in Verdi’s Messa da Requeim conducted by Francesco Angelico. At Teatro Bellini di Catania she is going to sing in 2019 as Cio-Cio-San in Madama Butterfly.
In earlier seasons Karina Flores sang as Santuzza in Cavalleria rusticana in Naples (Teatro San Carlo), in Rome (Teatro Argentina) and in Moscow (Michaylovsky Theatre, conducted by D. Rustioni and directed by L. Cavani), as Aida in Moscow (Peter Stein's production at the Stanislavsky Opera), and in Paris (Opera de Massy), as Elisabetta in Don Carlo (Opera Craiova in Romania, conducted by Walter Attanasi), Amelia in Un ballo in maschera, Contessa in Le nozze di Figaro, Tatyana in Eugen Onegin and Stephana in Umberto Giordano's Siberia in Moscow (Helikon Opera, directed by Dimitry Bertman), Liza in Pique Dame in Tel Aviv (Israeli Opera conducted by Vladimir Jurowski), Norma with the Festival Bel Canto conducted by Kent Nagano, Abigaille in Nabucco in Moscow (Novaya Opera), and Cio-Cio-San in Madama Butterfly in Rostov.
One of Karina Flores's most successful roles is Katariva Ismailova in Shostakovich' Lady Macbeth of Mtzensk, a role that she sang with Helikon Opera, conducted by Valery Kiryanov and directed by Dimitry Bertman, in Tel Aviv and at the Opera de Massy in Paris, conducted by Konstantin Chudovsky and directed by Dimitry Bertman.
In concert Karina Flores sang at the Grand Chaykovsky Hall in Moscow for a Verdi Gala conducted by Francesco Cilluffo and for the Rostropovich Festival conducted by Yuri Bashmet. She also performed in Verdi's Messa da Requiem and in Saint-Saëns Christmas Oratorio in the Grand Hall of the Conservatory in Moscow and in Shostokovich' 14th Symphony in St. Petersburg.
