Bio: Kelly Curtin, lyric coloratura soprano, has been lauded for her “crystal-clear soprano” (Opera News) and the“lovely fullness” of her voice (New York Classical Review). She has performed such roles as Die Königin der Nacht (Die Zauberflöte), Donna Anna (Don Giovanni), Mabel (The Pirates of Penzance), Eurydice (Orphée aux Enfers), Olympia (Les Contes d'Hoffmann), Adele (Die Fledermaus), Yum-Yum (The Mikado), Le Feu and Le Rossignol ( L'enfant et les sortilèges), Despina (Così fan tutte), Frasquita (Carmen), Valencienne (The Merry Widow), Valentina (Later the Same Evening), Ms. Wordsworth (Albert Herring), Papagena (Die Zauberflöte), Rose (Street Scene) and Angelina (Trial by Jury). Ms. Curtin began the 2017/18 season with The In Series (Washington D.C.) as the Queen of the Night in The Magic Flute. She reprised that role later with both Shreveport Opera and Bel Cantanti Opera. Ms. Curtin then returned to Montana as the soprano soloist in Handel’s Messiah with the Helena Symphony, and to St. Pete Opera as the First Lady in Die Zauberflöte. Ms. Curtin then joined the cast of Piramo e Tisbe as Tisbe with the Little Opera Theater of New York. In the spring, she debuted at Opéra Louisiane as Josephine in HMS Pinafore, and followed that with an appearance in the Capital Fringe Festival playing three different roles in Silver Finch Arts Collective’s production of The Lives Left Behind. Most recently, Ms. Curtin sang the role of Fiordiligi in a concert version of Così fan tutte at Opera America in New York City. Ms. Curtin has won several awards and honors including 1st prize in the Lansdowne Symphony Youth Auditions, 2nd prize in the Kennett Symphony Vocal Competition, and honorable mention at the Violetta DuPont Vocal Competition for Opera at Florham. In 2009, she won first prize in the Austrian-American Society Scholarship Competition; the prize being a scholarship to the Internationale Sommerakademie der Universität, Mozarteum in Salzburg. While there, she worked with Elio Battaglia, Tom Krause, and Edda Moser and performed in several concerts while enjoying the beautiful city of Salzburg. Most recently she was a semi-finalist at the Opera Birmingham Competition in 2014, The American Prize Opera Competition in 2015, and 2nd prize winner at the Connecticut Opera American Opera Idol Competition. Ms. Curtin holds a bachelor of music degree from the University of Delaware and a master of music degree from the Manhattan School of Music. She studies with Mark Oswald in NYC.
