Bio: American tenor Marc Heller has appeared in principal tenor roles at such theaters as the Metropolitan Opera, New York City Opera, Theatre Capitole - Toulouse, Dutch National Opera, Barcelona’s Liceu, the Bolshoi Opera - Moscow, Royal Swedish Opera - Stockholm, and others in such roles as Verdi’s Otello, Radames in Aida, Calaf in Turandot, Don José in Carmen and others. Marc made his Metropolitan Opera debut opposite Plácido Domingo as the opera's antagonist Gao Jian Li in Tan Dun's new work The First Emperor, returning the following season as Tybalt in Roméo et Juliette with Anna Netrebko and Roberto Alagna, appearing in that season’s Met HD movie series, and internationally re-broadcast regularly. Mr. Heller sang the role of Radames in Aida at the Pyramids, with Cairo Opera simulcast on RAI Television, and in performances of a new production at London’s Royal Albert Hall, accompanied by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. In recent seasons, Marc has made house debuts at the Bolshoi Theater - Moscow as Don José in Carmen, Barcelona's Liceu as Verdi's Otello and Opera Pacific as Calaf in Turandot, with internationally broadcast performances at both latter venues, the Hungarian State Opera's Summer Festival at Margaret Island - Budapest, again as Verdi's Otello, and in critically acclaimed role debuts as Enrico the Bellmaker in Respighi's rarity La Campana Sommersa at New York City Opera, as the eponymous Le Prophète by Meyerbeer at the Badisches Staatstheater - Karlsruhe. In concert, Mr. Heller has performed as the tenor soloist in Verdi’s, Mozart’s and Webber’s Messe di Requiem, in Beethoven’s 9th and Chorale Fantasy Symphonies, in Mendelssohn’s Lobegesang, Haydn’s Die Jahreszeiten, Mahler’s 8th Symphony, and others, in such venues as Avery Fisher and Carnegie Hall, MainStage - New York City, Boston’s Symphony Hall, and in Beijing and Shang-Hai, and others. As a recording artist, his work includes the role of Chairman Mao for Naxos’ recording of Adams’ Nixon in China, an album Grammy-nominated for production. Heller continues to reprise the roles internationally of Verdi’s Otello, Calaf, and Radames in this, and coming seasons. Other performed roles include Canio in I Pagliacci, Manrico in Il trovatore, Cavaradossi in Tosca, Chenier in Andrea Chenier, Turiddu in Cavalleria Rusticana; Max in Der Freischütz, and others; with role debuts in coming seasons which will include Shakes in Fleischmann’s Rothsschild’s Violin with the American Symphony Orchestra at Carnegie Hall, Wagner's Tristan in Tristan und Isolde, and Edrisi in Krol Roger at the Dallas Opera. Für den kurzfristig indisponierten Stuart Skelton hatte der amerikanische Tenor Marc Heller die Titelrolle übernommen. Da er sowieso als Cover vorgesehen war, war er mit der komplexen Regie von Wilson bestens vertraut. Heller beeindruckte mit mächtiger Stimme und stählerner Höhe, war aber auch zu sehr feinem Gesang fähig. Nach einem guten ersten Akt und einem kleinen Einbruch im zweiten, konnte sich Heller im dritten und vierten Akt enorm steigern.

Heller offered the best Verdian declamation and phrasing, his voice extending from baritone depths to a top he can lighten when needed; a useful, musicianly tenor.
