Bio: Mattia Olivieri, born in Sassuolo (Italy) in 1984, started very young his vocal studies at the G.B. Martini Music Conservatory in Bologna and at the G.B. Pergolesi Music Conservatory in Fermo, then specializing under the bariton Maurizio Leoni in Bologna.
He took part to various scholarships and masterclasses and in 2009 was admitted to the Scuola dell'Opera Italiana in Bologna.
He made his operatic debut in 2008 as Commissario Imperiale in Madama Butterfly and Fiorello in Il Barbiere di Siviglia at the Tuscan Lyric Festival and as Ben in Menotti’s Il Telefono at the Teatro Comunale in Caserta.
During the 2008/09 season he performed Papageno in Il flauto magico within an opera education project that toured numerous Italian theaters.
In 2009/10, he was Barone Douphol in La Traviata directed by Henning Brockhaus and Fiorello in Il Barbiere di Siviglia directed by Damiano Michieletto in Jesi, Giorgio in La gazza ladra in Bologna conducted by Michele Mariotti.
Highlights of his 2010 engagements are the modern première of Napoli Milionaria (Federico) at the Festival della Valle d’Itria in Martina Franca; Offenbach’s Monsieur Choufkeuri restera chez lui (Monsieur Choufleuri) in Bologna and Jesi, Madama Butterfly (Yamadori) in Jesi, Bach’s Cantata BWV140 at the Teatro Comunale in Bologna, Schumann’s Neujahrslied at the New Year’s Concert held at the Teatro Carlo Felice di Genoa.
His 2011 activity include L’elisir d’amore (Dulcamara) in Jesi, Das geheime königreich (Zweiter Revolutionär), Der Diktator (title role), Il convitato di pietra (Marchese Dorasquez) and Das knaben wunderhorn in Martina Franca, Carmen (Le Dancaire) and La Traviata (Douphol) in Cagliari, La gazza ladra (Giorgio) at the Dresden Semperoper conducted by Michele Mariotti, Il flauto magico (Papageno), Il prigioniero (Secondo Sacerdote) and Frankestein ovvero l’amor non guarda in faccia (Prima Creatura) in Bologna.
In 2012 he was Dulcamara in L’elisir d’amore at the Sarzana Opera Festival and Don Prudenzio in Il viaggio a Reims with the Rossini Academy in Pesaro; in September he started in the Centre de Perfeccionament in Valencia, where he performed in M.F.Caballero’s Zarzuela El duo de la africana (Cherubini) and in La Bohème (Schounard) conducted by Riccardo Chailly.
Among his last and future engagements: Guglielmo in Così fan tutte in Valencia, Fabrizio in Crispino e la comare at the Martina Franca Festival, Schaunard il La Bohéme in Sao Paulo, the title-role in Don Giovanni in Palermo, Ping in Turandot at the Arena di Verona, Nardo in La finta giardiniera with the Glyndebourne Tour, Guglielmo in Così fan tutte in Nice, Schaunard in La bohème and Belcore in L'elisir d'amore at La Scala, Guglielmo in Così fan tutte in Sao Paulo.
