Bio: Finnish bass Niklas Spångberg debuted 2001 at the Finnish National Opera as Sid in Fanciulla del West and has since performed mainly in Northern Europe, including the Finnish National Opera, Savonlinna Opera Festival and theatres & stages in Stockholm, Västerås, St. Petersburg, Helsinki, Tampere, Turku, Vaasa, Mariehamn, Pori and Oulu. Niklas Spångberg’s engagements include Zuniga in Carmen at the Finnish National Opera, Sarastro in Die Zauberflöte and Colline in La Bohème at the Vaasa Opera, Sparafucile in Rigoletto and Il Commendatore in Don Giovanni at the Turku Opera, Montano in Otello (Moscow Bolshoi visit Sep 2018), Mityukha in Boris Godunov and Unto in Sallinen’s Kullervo at the Savonlinna Opera Festival, Vaunuhallin mies in Kantelinen’s Mannerheim (world premiere) at the Ilmajoki Music Festival, Bartolo/Antonio in Le Nozze di Figaro in a festival production celebrating Finland’s 100th anniversary.  He covered Filippo II in Don Carlos at the Royal Opera Stockholm and has performed Gremin in Evgeny Onegin in a Finnish-Russian joint production in St.Petersburg. He is sought after as a bass soloist in oratorios of Beethoven, Puccini, Händel, Mozart, Bach, Telemann and Fauré. Niklas Spångberg started singing in the famous boys’ choir Cantores Minores. After graduating from the Helsinki University of Technology, he studied singing at the Sibelius Academy under Erkki Rajamäki. He has received tuition from Jaakko Ryhänen, Irina Gavrilovici, Matti Lehtinen, Anssi Hirvonen, Raimo Laukka and Enrico Facini.
