Bio: Paul Featherstone is an experienced professional tenor and actor based in London & Glasgow.He studied Drama & Philosophy at the University of Glasgow and then worked as an actor in theatre and television in Scotland. On discovering his tenor voice he went to study with Peter Alexander Wilson at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music & Drama. Paul also worked as a tutor at RSAMD, teaching Drama to undergraduate singers.He has sung many leading dramatic roles with small companies and is incredibly versatile in performing a wide range of character roles for bigger companies. Examples of character roles include: Abraham Kaplan, Steve Sankey & Officer Murphy in "Street Scene" (Weill) with the Opera Group and Young Vic Theatre and also at the Paris Chatelet, Barcelona Liceu and Theater an der Wien, Ivan and many other roles in "The Nose" (Shostakovich) with the Opera Group at the Royal Opera House Linbury Studio and Buxton Festival, The Governor, Martin, Grand Inquisitor, King Theodore etc in "Candide" (Bernstein) with the Opera Group at the Richmond Theatre and on tour. For Scottish Opera, he sang Harry in "La fanciulla del West", the Animal Seller in "Der Rosenkavalier" and 3rd Jew in "Salome" and has covered and performed excerpts of Dr Caius in "Falstaff", the Tenor Actor in "A Night At The Chinese Opera" and the Pasha in "The Abduction from the Seraglio." For Wexford Festival Opera, Elder Hayes in "Susannah "(Floyd) and the shepherd in "Penelope "(Faure). At Grange Park Opera, Lonigan in "Wonderful Town" (Bernstein) and Subtil in "Fortunio" (Messager). At Garsington, Antonio in "La gazza ladra" (Rossini).At Opera Holland Park, Abdallo in "Nabucco".At the Iford Festival with Opera della luna: Hoffmann in "Tales of Hoffmann" (Offenbach) and Mercury & John Styx in "Orpheus in the Underworld" (Offenbach). Other Offenbach roles with Opera della luna include Cacatois XXII in "L'isle de Tulipatan" and Mousse-a-mort in "Croquefer". As an actor, Paul covered Klaus Maria Brandauer in "Morgen und Abend" (Haas) and Chris Addison & Jean-Luc Vincent in "L'étoile" (Chabrier) both at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden. Major roles sung for smaller companies include:Rodolfo in "La Boheme", Calaf in "Turandot"Riccardo/Gustavus in 4 productions of "A Masked Ball "(Verdi) plus covering it in Italian at Castleward Opera, Alfredo in "La Traviata", Ernani in "Ernani", Radames in "Aida", Macduff in 4 productions of "Macbeth", and cover of Rodolfo in "Luisa Miller", Canio in "I Pagliacci" and Title roles in "Faust" and "Werther", Michele in "The Saint of Bleecker Street" (Menotti), Mime in "Das Rheingold",Eisenstein in "Die Fledermaus" and Danilo, Njegus and Bogdanowitsch in "The Merry Widow", Macheath in "The Threepenny Opera" and Bill in "Mahagonny Songspiel" (Weill). Paul is an associate director with the English Pocket Opera Company, an opera in education company based in London and run by Mark Tinkler. The company do a wide variety of workshops and educational projects in schools and theatres and has mounted several productions with the student designers at Central St Martins College of Art & Design. For the company, Paul has directed Bartok's "Duke Bluebeard's Castle" and Verdi's "Macbeth" and sung Orpheus in Gluck's "Orpheus & Eurydice", Siegfried, Mime & Loge in "Wagner's Ring in 90 Minutes" and Macduff in "Macbeth".
