L'elisir d'amore, Donizetti
C: Francesco Lanzillotta
An "elixir of rare quality" at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées

The mastermind behind this success is nevertheless Italian: Francesco Lanzillotta , who is leading a very fine career in Italy but is still relatively little known in France, offers at the head of an Orchester national d'Île-de-France in large forms a brilliant reading of Donizetti's masterpiece. We are grateful to the Italian conductor for believing in this music and for respecting it, neglecting no cover, mutilating no coda. Lively, alert, contrasting, subtle, its direction, while preserving the delicacy of the poetic parentheses that constitute the " Furtiva lagrima " or the " Adina, credimi, te ne scongiuro…” by Nemorino, gives the score a constant liveliness and dramatism: it undoubtedly counts for a lot in the impression that we had of attending a real spectacle staged rather than a concert version! But that's not all… The singers all turn out to be incredibly believable in their roles, with, each time, a face and stage acting that best reflect the feelings and characters of the characters embodied.
