Bio: Ryszard Kalus is a German-Polish bass. He was born in Königshütte (Poland) and studied singing and acting from 1999 to 2004 at the music academy in Katowice, which he graduated with distinction. He continued his education through various master classes with singers such as Ingrid Kremling-Domański, Ileana Cotrubas, Kurt Streit, Jolanta Żmurko-Kurzak, Grace Bumbry, Ann Murray, Elisabeth Connell, Falk Struckmann, Emily Rawlins Struckmann, Jeanne Piland and Dieter Schweikard. He has won several national and international competitions: 2004 1st prize and 11 special prizes in the "International Didur Opera Competition" competition in Bytom (PL), 2003 - Cesare Bardelli prize in the GB Viotti competition in Vercelli (Italy), 2003 - prize (4th Prize) at the International Ada Sari Vocal Art Competition in Nowy Sacz (PL), 2003 - March 2nd Prize at the National Vocal Competition in Wroclaw in 2002 2nd Prize at the XVII International Vocal Competition in Trnava (SLO), 2001 - November - two second prizes (opera and song) at the XXXVI International Singing Competition Antonin Dvorak in Karlovy Vary (CZ) 1998 - May - 1st prize at the Young Music Competition in the Katowice Voivodeship During his studies he was heard in numerous opera productions, including Uberto in “La serva padrona”, Aeneas in “Dido and Aeneas”, Figaro in “Figaro's Wedding” and Papageno in “The Magic Flute”. From 2005 to 2007 he was a member of the International Opera Studio at the Hamburg State Opera. Afterwards he appeared on the stage of the Chamber Opera in Hamburg as Leporello in "Don Giovanni", Kaspar in "Der Freischütz" and Dulcamara in "L'elisir d'amore". Ryszard Kalus also works as a concert singer. His extensive repertoire includes Handel's "Messiah", Brahms "A German Requiem", Haydn's "Creation", Rossini's "Petite Messe Solonelle" and Puccini's "Messa di Gloria". Since the 2011/2012 season, he has been committed to the Landestheater Neustrelitz. He sang many leading roles here: Don Basilio, Kezal, Sparafucile, Don Magnifico, Raimondo, Attila and Sarastro.
