Bio: The Swedish mezzo-soprano Solgerd Isalv is currently employed at the Staatstheater Darmstadt where her roles include Donna Elvira DON GIOVANNI, Hélène FAUST ET HÉLÈNE, Lucrezia LA LUCREZIA and Dulcinée DON QUICHOTTE.
Praised by critics and directors alike for her stage presence and vocal ability Ms. Isalv was nominated as the best upcoming female singer of the year in the magazine Opernwelt for her performance of Cherubino at State Theatre Nürnberg. Her background as a violinist has helped her establish herself as an interpreter of contemporary music.
She has appeared at the Great Hall of the Moscow Conservatory, Aram Khachaturian Concert Hall in Yerevan, Auditorium di Milano Fondazione Cariplo, Hessisches Staatstheater Darmstadt, Bayerisches Staatstheater Nürnberg, the Wermland Opera, Norrlandsoperan, Opera Vlaanderen, Theater Gera, the Miskolci Nemzetközi Operafesztivál and the Göteborgsoperan
Outside Darmstadt, Ms. Isalv’s engagements include Carmen LA TRAGEDIÉ DE CARMEN at the Wermland Opera, Feodor BORIS GODUNOW at Göteborgsoperan, Siebel FAUST at Norrlandsoperan, Lucretia THE RAPE OF LUCRETIA at Theatre Gera, Charlotte DIE SOLDATEN, Hänsel HÄNSEL UND GRETEL, Second Norn GÖTTERDÄMMERUNG and Wellgunde RHEINGOLD/DIE GÖTTERDÄMMERUNG at the Staatstheater Nürnberg. During her time as a member of the Nürnberg Young Artists Programme at Bayerische Staatstheater Nürnberg she sang parts such as Second Lady MAGIC FLUTE, Maddalena RIGOLETTO and Mercedes CARMEN.
On the concert platform Ms. Isalv has worked with orchestras such as La Verdi, Moscow Symphony Orchestra, Armenian State Symphony Orchestra, Haydn Orchestra Bolzano, Nürnberg Philharmonic Orchestra and Bamberg Symphonic Orchestra. She has recorded for broadcasting companies such as the Swedish Radio with whom she sang the premiere of the rock opera KULT by Ola Salo and Bayerische Rundfunk for which she recorded SYMPHONY NO1 (Jeremiah) by Bernstein. She also sang the Swedish premiere of “Message from the Soul'' written and conducted by A. Wurtz.
Her concert repertoire includes Beethoven’s NINTH SYMPHONY, Brahms ALTO RHAPSODY, Elgar‘s SEA PICTURES, Mendelssohn’s ST. PAUL and LOBGESANG, Mahler’s KINDERTOTENLIEDER and RÜCKERTLIEDER, Ravel‘s SHÉHÉRAZADE, Wagner’s WESENDONCKLIEDER as well as music by Haydn, Nystroem, Rangström and Weill. Her wide sacred repertoire includes works by J.S.Bach as well as later composers.
She has worked with several well established directors and conductors such as Olof Boman, Marcus Bosch, Sam Brown, Mariame Clement, Daniel Cohen, Leo Hussain, Pavel Kogan, Peter Konwitschny, Maxim Pascal, Cecilia Rydinger-Alin, Georg Schmiedleitner, Laura Scozzi, Eric Solén and Sergei Smbatyan.
Solgerd Isalv is one of the founders of the initiative Oper+, a network of freelance musicians, offering a platform for diverse outreaching projects in the Nuremberg region. During the first LockDown in spring 2020 she founded the Corona Survival Package #CultureContinued which published 54 videos, organised 3 live concerts and included many German and international artists. Engaged in culture politics and outreach projects she is a returning soloist with the innovative and experimental opera company Compagnia Nuova.
As a recitalist she is known for exciting, innovative programs, preferably with literary connections. Ms. Isalv performs regularly with her duo partner pianist Jonas Olsson.
After early training as a violinist and violist Ms. Isalv studied solo voice at the Academy of Music and Drama at the University of Göteborg, finishing with a Master’s Degree in Music Performance.
