Bio: Soprano Susanne Serfling studied singing at the Hanns Eisler University of Music in Berlin with Hannerose Katterfeld after completing classical ballet training. In addition, she attended master classes with Julia Varady and Wolfram Rieger. Susanne Serfling is a prizewinner of the Lotte-Lenya singing competition and national singing competition 2000. She is also a scholarship holder of the European Cultural Foundation 2002. During her studies, Susanne Serfling was a guest at the Berlin State Opera, the Komische Oper Berlin and the Salzburg Festival. Her first permanent engagement took her to the Erfurt Theater, where she successfully worked as Gretel in Hansel and Gretel. In 2005 the soprano moved to the ensemble of the Darmstadt State Theater. After initially presenting herself with title roles such as Poppea, Iphigenie, Kluge and Anne Frank, she successfully made her debut in the lyrical-dramatic subject with the role of Rachel in La Juive. She was able to set further highlights as Katja Kabanowa, as Mimi in La Bohème and Sieglinde in Die Walküre. Furthermore, she sang the Cio-Cio San in Madama Butterfly, the Giorgetta, Suor Angelica, Salome and Desdemona for the first time. In 15/16 she made her debut as Leonore in Fidelio at the Koblenz Theater, followed by Chrysothemis in Elektra at the Detmold State Theater and at the Cottbus State Theater. In season 17/18 she made her role debut as Senta in The Flying Dutchman at the Landestheater Detmold and in the original version at the Koblenz Theater. In May 2018 she sang a celebrated Salome at the Magdeburg Theater and in the 2018/19 season Susanne Serfling was a guest at the Ulm Theater and made her debut as Marietta in Die tote Stadt at the Theater Wuppertal. Her current responsibilities include Leonore in Fidelio at the Ulm Theater, Salome at the Hagen Theater and Freia in Das Rheingold at the Oldenburg State Theater. Her diverse concert repertoire ranges from Mozart to Brahms, Mendelssohn, Strauss and Mahler to Kurt Weill. In the concert area, the soprano was heard with Mahler's 8th Symphony in Gießen and with the Seven Deadly Sins at the Berlin Philharmonic.
