Bio: Baritone Zachary Altman will be seen during the 2016-17 season as Athlet/Tierbändiger in Lulu with both the Hamburgische Staatsoper (d. Christoph Marthaler) and Teatro dell'opera di Roma (d. William Kentridge), and as Bottom in A Midsummer Night's Dream in Cremona, Pavia, Brescia, Como, and Reggio Emilia. Future performances include more performances of Bottom with Teatro Massimo di Palermo. Last season, Zachary was seen at the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino as Mr Gedge (Albert Herring), the Hamburgische Staatsoper as Dritte Schäfer (Daphne), Il Mandarino (Turandot) with Pacific Symphony; he also joine Teatro dell'opera di Rome for The Bassarids and The Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonney. He joined Theater Basel for seven roles in the 2014-15 season, including Tarquinius (The Rape of Lucretia), Schlemil/Hermann (Les contes d'Hoffmann), and Montano in a new production of Otello directed by Calixto Bieito.From 2012-2014, Zachary was a Principal Resident Artist at Opera San Jose, performing as Zurga (The Pearl Fishers), Count Di Luna (Il Trovatore), Dr. Falke (Die Fledermaus), Ford (Falstaff), Sharpless (Madama Butterfly) and the title roles in Don Giovanni and Gianni Schicchi. In 2012 and 2013 Mr. Altman also sang with the Caramoor Festival, as Vaudemont (Les Vêpres Siciliennes), Marullo (Rigoletto), and Astolfo (Lucrezia Borgia). Other career highlights for Mr. Altman include Hermann Augustus (Candide) with the Los Angeles Philharmonic at the Hollywood Bowl; Nimming Ned (The Beggar’s Opera) under the baton of Lorin Maazel with the Castleton Festival; Don Giovanni with Music Academy of the West; John Proctor (The Crucible), Guglielmo (Così fan tutte), and Arnalta (L’incoronazione di Poppea) with the Chautauqua Institute; and performances with Fort Worth Opera and Sarasota Opera.​ He received both his graduate and undergraduate degrees from Manhattan School of Music, where he sang his first Dr. Falke in Die Fledermaus, Tarquinius in The Rape of Lucretia, and Joe Harland in John Musto’s Later the Same Evening, which was recorded and released on Albany Records.
