Fiona Shaw was born in County Cork, Ireland and trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts. She is one of the most recognised actors of her generation, known for both her theatre work (Ibsen Hedda Gabler, Euripides Medea, Brecht Mother Courage, Treadwell Machinal) and for her film work (notably, the Harry Potter series and Three Men and A Little Lady). In addition to her highly praised acting work, Fiona has recently directed Vaughan Williams Riders to the Sea, Henze Elegy for Young Lovers and Mozart The Marriage of Figaro for English National Opera. Her production of Britten The Rape of Lucretia was originally produced for Glyndebourne on Tour and has since been seen at the Deutsche Oper, Berlin and at the 2015 Glyndebourne Festival.
