"Countess Maritsa" 2021 is a jubilee title for Vera Nemirova and the Varna Opera. The most famous Bulgarian director in Europe is a descendant of the famous Nemirov family - the writer Dobri Nemirov and the director Evgeni Nemirov. Following in the footsteps of her father Evgeniy Nemirov, half a century after his production, she now makes her fascinating modern reading of "Countess Maritsa" in the same theater. As the playwright of the play she was accompanied by her mother - the opera singer Sonya Nemirova, who made her debut at the premiere on March 15, 1970 as Sonya Doichinova in the Varna production of her future husband in the role of Countess Maritsa. June 3, 2021 marks the 101st anniversary of the birth of Vera's father, Evgeniy Nemirov. In addition to all this, it was with Imre Kalman's famous operetta that Vera Nemirova's brilliant directorial career at Volksoper began. All this emotional connotation gives additional artistry to the production, especially since it focuses on the theater itself. Vera Nemirova's concept transfers the action from the dilapidated mansion, where the action takes place on the libretto, to the theater. Her Countess Maritsa is a star who, having established herself on the world stage, returns to the dilapidated theater of her hometown to revive it, like the phoenix from the ashes. In this sense, "Countess Maritsa" from 2021 carries its message to the theater, which lost touch with its audience because of Covid. And if the first "Countess Maritsa" appeared in the post-World War I crisis to express the unquenchable human urge for sharing, love and happiness, today it has the same mission. The soloists, choristers and ballet dancers of the Varna State Opera stand behind the current message with their talent and energy to create a full-blooded modern show, intriguing with its dynamics and vision, with the feeling of celebration. In the main roles the hearts of the spectators will be won by the magnificent Ilina Mihailova - Maritsa, Plamen Raykov - Tasilo, Velin Mihailov - Koloman Zhupan and Lilia Ilieva - Lisa. The Austro-Italian conductor Eraldo Salmieri, the set designer Chavdar Chomakov, the costume designer Pavlina Oisterhus and the choreographer Silvia Tomova have a happy meeting in Varna with the jubilee "Countess Maritsa" and Vera Nemirova, who since June this year. is a permanent guest director of the Opera House in Varna.
