The comic singspiel Abduction from the Seraglio was written by the twenty-five-year-old Mozart in German on the order of Emperor Joseph II. for the Burgtheater in Vienna, right after the Italian opera seria - Idomeneo. It is a musical farce, influenced by the period fashion of the Orient, it also shows the fading influence of the Turkish conquests in Europe. Musically, however, it is a purely miraculous composition by Mozart, which opens the heart of genius - the richness of arias, two choirs and chamber numbers, full of loving feeling and youthful mischief. In this single piece, Mozart used the triangle and cymbals to emphasize the Turkish character of the music. The premiere of the opera took place on July 16, 1782, so our production is a celebration of the 240th anniversary. Andrea Hlinková directed.
