The ray of light that music history casts on individual composers springs from the respective present that is writing the history. Whether a composer is in the light or the shadow of the music world is subject to change over time, as in the case of Louis Spohr. He was not only a respected conductor and, along with Niccolò Paganini, one of the greatest violin virtuosos of his time, but also a highly esteemed composer. After his death, however, the multi-talented artist gradually fell into oblivion. Ludwig Thuille also enjoyed a high reputation during his lifetime, above all as a music teacher and central figure of the "Munich School". As a composer, he is now overshadowed by his contemporaries Gustav Mahler and Richard Strauss. The latter, on the other hand, with whom Thuille had a long friendship, still has its regular place in the opera and concert repertoire. Both worlds meet in this concert, with which Cornelius Meister and members of the Staatsorchester Stuttgart not only present rarities from music history, but also let the successful works "Till Eulenspiegel" and "Der Rosenkavalier" by Richard Strauss shine in a new, chamber music light.
