It is an unprecedented production! In a single sequence shot, shot live at the Théâtre du Châtelet, Les Cris de Paris delivers an exceptional interpretation of the lyric tragedy Actéon , staged by Benjamin Lazar.

Inspired by Ovid's Metamorphoses , Charpentier composed this “hunting opera” in 1684, based on the myth of Prince Actaeon who, having surprised the goddess Diana taking her bath, suffered a cruel vengeance. Far from the amiable idylls for which this type of short format was often intended,  Actaeon is a dazzling opera in which, during one act divided into six scenes, we go from carefree entertainment to absolute tragedy. Brilliant intuition on the part of the composer and his anonymous librettist, the opera unfolds a plot that presents no temporal ellipse, the bestial metamorphosis of Actaeon seeming to take place in real time.

Between the simplicity of the theatrical device and the refinement of the cinematographic effects, Benjamin Lazar offers a contemporary vision of this baroque work. On screen, the musicians and singers of Les Cris de Paris restore all the intensity of the drama in an emotional crescendo which culminates with the final complaint.
